View Full Version : Macbook Pro or Mac Pro?

I'm trying to decide whether to go with the 17" Macbook Pro or a quad core Mac Pro?
Will be using FPC Studio 2, Shake, Motion3, Logic 8 for both video and audio work. I do my own music beds for videos.
I'm currently using a G4 and it just doesn't have enough capability to handle the new software. I'm also tired of long render times with it.
Which machine would you choose and why?

MacPro
(And take this from someone who has and uses both.)
The MBP is great when your focus is FCP, LiveType and even Logic. But when you start throwing Shake and Motion into the mix, the 8-core MacPro is going to deliver superior results. And if long render times are an issue, all the more reason to go with the MacPro.
RAM is cheap. Storage is cheap. Max out that MacPro and you'll have a beast of a machine.

Great Advise. But how about the whole story? Surely if you can recommend the Mac Pro you might have to fill in the remaining blanks in the puzzle?

Looking at those things makes my brain hurt. Sorry.

Stephenmick,
Thanks for the reply.
I thought as much, but not having used either the Mpro or MBPro, I just wasn't sure if I could get by with the less expensive MBP.
Thanks again,
Ken
PS - Zephyrnoid - too much information for me too!
