Although it's not a great idea to shoot directly to the sun as it could possibly fry the censors. However, here is a frame from a timelapse that I shot earlier and was wondering if anybody would say that this is too bright and it could fry my censors in this example. Where' is the line drawn on when it could damage the camera?

I was using the Letus Extreme and my lens iris was at a f22 and the camera irs was at a f5.6. I was also using a UV fliter.

Hi:

Sorry, couldn't help myself, my wife is a language arts teacher and I am a writer.

Censor = an official who examines books, plays, news reports, motion pictures, radio and television programs, letters, cablegrams, etc., for the purpose of suppressing parts deemed objectionable on moral, political, military, or other grounds.

Sensor = a mechanical device sensitive to light, temperature, radiation level, or the like, that transmits a signal to a measuring or control instrument.

FWIW, I don't think shooting into the sun will damage your CCDs, I have done it many times for time lapse sunrises and sunsets and have never seen any bad effects or lit pixels from doing so. I would be more cautious during the heat of day other than in the sunrise or sunset period. I would not shoot mid-day sun directly, mainly because of the reverse magnifying glass effect that the sun could have in relfecting those much hotter rays back through your lens into the CCD block.

I've shot my HVX-200 and HPX-170 into the sun all the time

Like Dan said, I wouldn't shoot into the sun midday without a lot of ND filters but for stuff low on the horizon I've never had any issues.

You were able to use F22 with the Letus Extreme? No grain, no problems?
