Well I have two idea I'm working on the first one now but ultimately that will probably just be a test. I'm working on a shirt inspired by Sin City/Sprity. Bluescreen, matchmove, cg environment...cg atmosphere. Like I said this is just more of a test.

My real idea will be shooting a actor maybe my gf if I can't find anybody else. I want to see if I can make a photoreal superhero effect. I will have my actor rip out a street light and bend it in a very realstic manner. I will be shooting a custom HDR for CG lighting on the set and of course matchmoving the shot then finishing it off in Cinema 4d and After Effects.

Sounds cool Josh. Looking forward to it.

Little update for me I locked in a actor and should be shooting my bg plate Sunday or Monday :).

Heres that Spirit test I was messing with. Its not very polished I did most of it in less than a day and the cg building is horrible just mad a cube and slapped a material on it. Mainly it was matchmove exercise but I took a few steps further.

Your camera is panning faster than the background. What you can do maybe , Josh, is track it and bring the points into C4D and assign a camera as per usual.

Then try, I'm guessing here, to check the cameras properties. By scrubbing the frames and watching the properties, if you see the angles and/or positiones changing, then you should be be able to extrapolate (maybe pull out a calculator) into usefull info. For example, what are the angles and how much are they changing over the pan?

If that does not work hollar back. I'd be surprised.

//Are you using the tracking data you were given? Seems odd your so far off on the pan.
Maybe beacuse your building is too close. Back it up by a factor of 4 and rescale it up and see if it gets better (but that's a fudge).

Hmm yeah I'm using the tracking data I got from my matchmove. Its probably due to the building in some way. I'll take a look at it a bit later and I will actually make a decent looking building.

For now I'm going to try and focus on my "real" cgfest entry :). Thanks for the tips Gord!

Not sure if I'm going to have time to start/finish my original Idea I will save that one :) but I have somewhat of a new idea I'm going to try and make happen that doesn't involve any actors and I can shoot in my house.

More to come soon I hope :)

My project is coming along nicely although I kind of want to keep it a surprise :)

Well I keep making my project more and more complex lol. I shot HDR for CG lighting did some matchmoving on hand held footage cloth simulation, hair simulation, real flow, multipass... I'm doing some compositing now then will work on Sound mix and intro title :).

I'm having alot of fun and learning things I've never really used before.

By the way what does it mean when people say rserved in their thread?? (noob aleart I know)

That means they are saving the spot for other crap they might want to post there.

Thanks for the explanation Matt. Another way to bump a thread I guess?

Well, if you wanted to separate information. Like a general description. Then an area for a WIP. Renderings, concept art. And maybe another for a journal of the work.

Kinda like I was planning until I moved to NYC for a job. Haha - I don't know if I will be able to turn an entry for this.

My Entry Info:

Credits

Music & Sounds: Digital Juice and I did a little with cubase but its not to noticeable.

Skeleton Model: Turbosquid just the skeleton it did not include cloth and hair and I used my own materials.

Everything else I created specifically for my fest entry.

Tools Used

Cinema 4D & Body Paint, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Soundbooth, Photoshop, SynthEyes, Imagineer Motor(roto), Real Flow 4 SE.

Shot the video on my trusty DVX100b and created a HDR probe with my Pentax K10 DSLR and a chrome sphere.

To be a little more specific I used silverbullet plugin in C4D for my dynamics. Also used C4Ds hair and cloth simulations.

Great entry Josh!! Especially for the amout of time you used. The pan looked like it belonged there. Really well integrated. I would have left out the ghost though, I think. It looked good but wasn't necessary to sell the story. Would have been creepier to just see the pan go nuts.

After seeing your WIPs I checked out SynthEyes. Looks like a great app. I need to learn how to intigrate CG and live footage and it looks like it takes away a lot of the pain. Think I'll give it a try. Any negatives to SynthEyes, or is there another tracking app I should look at?

Thanks for participating!! Can't wait to see more work from you.

Hey Towerfan. Thank you for the reply and comments. I kind of agree with you about the ghost. I originally didn't have it in there then I thought well I have about a day left why not see if I can add a ghost lol.

Mainly I wanted to see if I could make it fit in the scene and wanted to try out hair and cloth dynamics. But as you said it probably would have been more creepy without maybe I will have a 2nd cut :).

SynthEyes is a fantastic app. For the price it doesn't get any better for a 3d tracker Bouju has a $10,000 price tag compared to SynthEyes $399.99. I bought it about 5 months ago and certainly don't regret it. As a matter a fact its a big reason i will be moving to LA soon.

I recently got hired to matchmove 4 shots on a huge film (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1135487/). I used syntheyes and also did some hand-matchmove work in C4D. My name should be on the IMDB in the coming weeks.

I believe you are a lightwave user correct? I just finished teaching a class covering SynthEyes, C4D, and AE at Cineversity. (http://www.cineversity.com/)

Its not live yet but I think it will be online in the coming weeks.

As for a negative about SynthEyes the only one I can think of is the UI isn't near as pretty as say bouju. Other than that I haven't encounterd a shot I haven't been able to track. Along with combining some handmatchmoving in C4D too.

I have some more matchmove videos here (http://www.vimeo.com/user634199/videos)and here (http://www.joshjohnsonfilms.com/gallery.html).

Shoot me anymore questions if you like and I'm goign to watch your entry right now. Hope to see more work from you too.

Loved your entry. Nice matchmoving shot, like you I use Syntheyes, maybe a bit long though as the action felt a bit cramed at the end. The ghost was well done but a pan round to see it in full at the end would have really sold the shot and given closure to it.

Great work. Well done.

Thanks Mrluffy. Yeah that would have been a good idea a pan and or zoom to see the ghost in full. I wanted to add a few more elements maybe even just sound design in the middle but simply didn't have time.

Yeah SynthEyes is great!

thanks again
Josh

Good work. I agree that the skeleton could have been left out, but realize that you were trying things out. Also you're saucepan looked modeled and not quite round - maybe the mesh should have been subdivided a bit more? You had a nice sense of tension going walking into the room with the handheld camera though.
Congratulations on the film job. It does look like a big production. Cheers.
