I don't think I can do one, but for the idea I have the genre would be Crime.
Actually, I have another idea that would just be Drama. Simpler story, but it requires a larger cast / a party scene of some type.

If I do one it will most likely be a drama. Last time I tried a dramatic piece it didn't happen because some people weren't interested in anything that wasn't funny. This time I have access to different (more dedicated) people so it shouldn't be a problem...if I get around to it. :)

100% balls out, deep down, dark, dreary, depressing, tear jerking, medication requiring, gun to your head, jump off a bridge, cry in your beer, nothing is worth living for, drama.
How 'bout you?

Well let me tell you somehting. I was just talking to my, well, co-director I guess -- I credit him as DoP to make it easier for everyone; he operates the camera(s) -- and I ran through some plot fragments I have to go with a poster I made. I told him that if we are going to do a drama we have to do it right and that I would tap into a group of people I know which consists of quality actors, an editor who could work along side me in that respect, as well as some good equipment.
There is a good chance. :)

Working with a dramedy. Wrote the script a while back and loved the story (which also works for this fest), but finding a location to set the main part in has been a large problem and resulted in a lot of re-writes (the level of coincidence in the original setting was off the map).
Hopefully I can work out a location and film it before the March deadline.

I'm going Sci-Fi/action. Never tried either one. But this is the best place to push yourself to try new things. At least this fest is not all drama.

-eta I'm in the dramedy category so far I guess. More comedy than drama though is the aim. Maybe its a co-ma. err... maybe its just a dramady...
Didn't vote, but I've got a couple very different ideas going. One is hit the ground running action, and the other is more family-fare with a touch of fantasy. Gotta write the scripts first to see which one is doable in 6 minutes.

I'd LOVE to see a little kid (6-8 year olds) kung-fu flick! You could overdub the VO in a really cheesy, classic way...THAT would make a great comedy. Imagine the fun shots you could get because they're small enough to throw onto the couch or bed.
My kids used to love me to throw them onto the bed...if only they were younger (...and me too).:)

I am writing one of these exact stories with my kids so I won't enter into the fest unless it was pertinent, but my son is 8 and he is helping me write so it should be funny..

I don't think my kids would be up to an action flick. Although, Cheyenne fancies herself a Kung-Fu expert now that she's seen "Kung-Fu Panda" several times. . .

I think I'm going to try. One is one location so its easy and I'm hoping the story is super strong. No gimmicks on this one. I'm hoping to get some tears on this so casting will be very important.
The second one is way involved with many locations all over the place but with MsManhattan producing, I'm sure they will all be had. Not much dialog with this one, definitely plot driven I think.

 I mean if something goes wrong. For example, the audio equipment I want to use all of a sudden isn't available; or, maybe, the people I was counting on back off. There are so many variables and since I don't even have a completed script yet I think it would be irresponsible to toss up a thread right now. :)

Dude! Come on! Half of us don't even have a TITLE when we start a thread. We spend the rest of the time putting resources together and people and trying to match up schedules. It's part of the whole film production process and it takes a little bit of work, scraping and scratching, and yet we still manage to get it done, one way or the other.
at least you can write a script around what resources are available to you. besides, there are a lot of people out there who will be willing to help.
get the thread up and make the movie.

You're in freaking california for goodness sakes! E-mail me and I'll find you some freaking audio gear in california. If you have a good script your actors will want to be in it. If they get hit by a car then you'll call your second/third choices from your casting. If you lose a crucial crew member - replace them. Way too many DVXusers out there that are willing to lend a hand to those in need. I started a thread before I even had an idea - one will come to you eventually. Its not irresponsible when you know good and well you can pull it off. Network, start sending e-mails and making some phone calls. You can't tell me you live in California and are worried about having the resources to make a film. I have them here in crap-ass oklahoma, I know good and well you have them in California.

I'm betting we'll see close to what we had last Fest. Starting a thread and actually finishing a movie are two very different things.
Maybe we'll actually crack the 70 mark this fest!
The more the merrier.
Seems like the majority of them will be drama/dark/serious.
We'll see how many comedies we end up with. Looks like there could be quite a few.

Definitely, but don't forget the probability of having last-minute entries, or the probability that some filmmakers (like yourself) have not yet voted in this poll. I see that Steve (RichieWhite) hasn't voted too... always full of surprises. So based on that, as well as the forum's impressive growth (see stats here (http://www.quantcast.com/dvxuser.com)), I stick to a nice 100+, as if that matters at all.
