This being the Cafe' and all...

Well! I ran home and opened the box and there it was:

The DVX100 24p

I raced through the basic instructions (just wanna shoot) and started shooting. I have heard from other people that the 'out of the box' settings were good. I was NOT impressed.

But wait!

I started screwing around around with the SCENE FILE settings. I discovered 24p, chroma, gamma, shutter speeds, ND and MORE!

I can honestly say "I am blown away by the quality and imagery of the footage". I'm running around the house, inside and out and the color spectrum: W O W! This is not yo momma's camera.

I'm playing with COLOR spectrums (-7 to +7) and I'm thinking:

It's like TRaffic! Black Hawk Down! Gladiator!

I'm chasing my wifes lil chihauhau around in 45 degree shutter style and I'm loving it.

The lighting conditions sucked: High noonish harsh, bright: The ND setting had to be put at 1/64. I cannot wait until this evening. You know, MAGIC HOUR
Jst wanted to say I was elated and stoked and there is a short film on the way.

NOw if I could just get a tripod. :(

John - it's hard for me to express how happy I am that you FINALLY got your camera ;D

Seriously - enjoy. Can't wait to see your work!

no kidding.. if you have any questions we are all eager to help as you have already contributed so much before you even got the camera.

and peter.. I am sorry I missed you when we where in LA. that conference really ate up all our time and at the end of the day it woulda been nice to go for a drink. I thought about you a few times when we drove through Beverly hills but someone was sure to cut me off in mid thought and that ended that. We did stay at Le Park and it was incredible... one of the better hotel experiences I have had.

Thanks guys.

This is a great forum. Laid back, mellow, informative and serious when it want's to be. It doesn't seem anyone takes themselves to seriously and I have yet to see any kind of 'pissing contest's'.

I've participated in quite a few forums ranging from film to sports and this one is my favorite. The props go to Jared for putting this all together.

I hvae to get my finances back on track and then it's 'Vegas Baby!' When I can edit and post a film, then the real fun will start. In the meantime, I will learn everything I can about this camera and how it will work for me. So, I will be taking you up on your offer and slamming you with all kinds of queries.

Hey Jarred - next time we'll hook up. Glad you're back on-line. Seems like the last couple of months have been crazy for you. We've missed your presence on the DVX forums.

I started production of my next short a couple of weeks ago and have been busy with that. It's going pretty well though the location I'm at right now is really hard to shoot in because of the lighting/exposure issues I posted on earlier. I'm also trying to do EVERYTHING myself and it's kicking my butt. But, my actors are great and I'm really learning production. My vision is to be a successful feature director. So as they say, there's no substitute for experience.

For no good reason I decided to look through really freaking old post. This one was fun. Good to see even the faithful had that same first experience we did!

Even less than that - at B&H it's $2150 after the rebate. It's great how fast the price has fallen lately. Tempted to buy another one...or two...before the HMC150 comes out.

That IS a great deal.....I suppose I should be thinking HD, but I'm not confident my computer setup can handle editing HD. I don't think I'll ever regret getting a DVX.
