Hi peeps...

Was wondering if some one could enlighten me please. I have read many differing things about capturing 16x9 and 4x3 on my HVX-200.

At the moment I am capturing on tape with SD, largely because of the cost of P2 cards, this will change hopefully soon.

I am using final cut 5.1.4.
I have been recoding 16x9 squeeze on SD with the HVX-200, and have been logging and capturing 16X9 anamorphic in FCP.

I have read that if I capture 16x9 SD the quality would be worse than if I was to capture 4X3 SD because it squeezes the info??? Does it and if it does is it a major quality issue.

If other people are capturing on SD with their HVX-200 do you capture 4x3 or 16x9. I know it's all a personal taste thing and what suits one doesn't suit the other. But what I'm concerned about is the quality issue and any other details I may not be aware of. Obviously I can fit more into the frame when I capture 16x9 width wise.
And the 16x9 frame looks more film like which is what I am after, rather than putting slugs on the top and bottom of a 4x3 image.

Many many thanks for your time and help

Indy

I have always shot 16x9 squeeze on the DVX and now my HVX both tape and P2. I actually ran across another post saying the same thing about 4x3 letterboxing is better quality and in post bring up the image to 133.33 in a 16x9 sequence. That's a major pain though to have to bring up your entire project by 133.33. I honestly can't imagine that bringing up the image that much will be equal quality to 16x9 squeezed footage. I guess the only true way to discover this is to have a shoot out and test the theory. I will keep watching this.

Wrong...the opposite is true. HVX has a native 16x9 sensor. You'll get the best quality shooting anamorphic (squeeze) in camera.

Thanks guys.....sounds as though 16x9 (squeeze) on SD gets the thumbs up

I just got a Panasonic HVX200 and am begining to learn recording to tape with it. I used to always record to P2 but with the price of them its so hard to. How do i change my recording settings to record to tape in 16x9 (squeezed). now it is recording in 4x3.

Thanks
