Hey guys,

I saw many of you were having some poster font issues in the last entries, and I think the following little font is what you are looking for.

Through the years, I was using quite a lot of different poster fonts myself, and so far I have found this font the best of all. Not only it is identical to genuine font used by all major studios, it also offers preset job titles (more than you would probably want to use in one poster!), and it also includes genuine logos and video/audio markings that you would likely want to use on the back of DVD releases.

The font is available for instant downloading (free of charge) in DaFont (click the following image for link) and seems not to have any restrictions or limitations on it at all.

Hopefully that's gonna help you guys out with the posters!

And remember, if you insist designing your posters small (which I would not recommend as this prevents you from printing it later), do not to create your text objects small in the first place (anything that is below 72pt) when designing. If you need your text to be small (as you'd probably want the credit section to be), create it large (I personally like to use 200pt) and then resize it to whatever size you need. This way you don't lose any detail. But again, designing your posters insanely large (I guess that's something like 27" x 40" on 300 DPI) in the first place would be even better.

Anytime,

Erez

if anyone cares the name of the actual font that is most often used is called "Univers 39 Thin Ultra Condensed". there is no actual standard, but this is the "go to" font that professional poster key art designers use to lay out the billing blocks. i've got some friends who do this for a living. this font isn't free, however. that being said, the above knock-off is a great time saver.

The credit block is also useful to know, like what to put in there and when. So I did a little bit of research on it. Here's a basic breakdown.

[PROD CO] presents in association with [PROD CO] a [DIR/PROD] production [TITLE] starring [NAME] [NAME]
[NAME] [NAME] [NAME] [NAME] and [NAME] music by[NAME] visual effects supervisor [NAME] editor [NAME]
production designer [NAME] director of photography [NAME] executive producers [NAME] produced by [NAME]
story (based on etc) by [NAME] screenplay by [NAME] directed by [NAME]
[WEBSITE]

hope this helps

I am glad to see my thread is helpful, my friends.

And thanks, Rodney! the above breakdown is a great pattern to start with!

Then we can modify it based on what we feel is important to mention, and/or based on our contracts with the cast and crew we work with. As with almost everything else in life, no rules apply.

Here are four more resources for learning and inspiration:

Hey thanks this is awsome!

Did anyone catch that they have "a font by" as one of the credit preset things. haha. I assume they'd like us to put "a font by WHOAMI DESIGNS" in our credits lol.

Cool stuff. - Design your poster in InDesign and it won't matter whether you are editing your text in 75 pt or 5000 pt. You can zoom in a lossless environment.

Never make your final posters in Photoshop.

Great font! I just downloaded it!

Hey Kyle, good to see you here!

How does it differ from Photoshop's vector-text support?

Great font! I just downloaded it!

As always - glad I could help!

Oh, man! I thought I was the only one who found this 'knock-off' of movie poster fonts in this forum.

Lo and behold, Erez found it first. Its a nice font set.

One big problem is that you have to refer to the 'read me' file to know what keystroke combination you need to get the title set you want. Then again, its better than laying everything out from scratch.
