Hey all,

Last fest we fell though due to technical issues after we wrapped production. This time I am going to do it right.

Anyone here Upstate interested in jumping in on a production here in Ithaca? Looking for someone to bounce ideas off of and revise a script. My white board is slowly filling with ideas.

Considering putting the money forth to get a B-lister in here. Might also shoot with an F35.

Let me know if anyone is interested in helping out here.

-Matt

You're shooting with the F35? Whoa. Who will DP? I'd love to help out, but I'm afraid Ithaca is a little bit too far, especially since I don't have a motorized vehicle anymore.

Might is the key word.

And I am working on getting some contacts to query some DPs. I don't have anyone here that I like working with yet.

Ithaca is the intended shooting location. But I might move if needed and if conducive to me getting this shot. Everything is a work in progress. And I am working on funding too. But the total script needs to be written first.

I wish we have more than 6 minutes.

no offense matt but i really doubt you shoot your short film for dvxfest with an f23.

Matty,

I am well aware of the money involved in the camera. And the money involved in the short. A 35 is the top camera. If not, a few hundred less to spend and it's getting shot on 16mm. The film isn't designed for DVXuser. But using DVXusers outline.

I have the availability to shoot on an XTRProd. Now this only costs me the film and the processing. But really - what is the point in originating on film if you are going to go back to minidv? Nothing doing less than HD. And that is talking 50 cents a foot. With 11 cents a foot processing. So we are already talking 2000 plus for 5 rolls of 400 core loads. That is a 5 to 1 shooting ratio. Then it would be ideal to go through a DI and make it look amazing.

So that is 4000. An F23 would be about 2k a day fully set up. A 35, probably a little bit more. So doing the math - it works.

DVXuser has opened an option to shoot a film and send it to festivals. Since I will be shooting another short in August. And then a Feature in a year. It's training for it.

If the DVXuser film fest is the final placement for a short, then that kinda sucks. While it is an educational fest, I don't think the final idea should be DVXuser. I mean - I see it as an opportunity to actually have a reason to enter production and get moving.

Either way, we aren't talking a camera here - we are talking about making a film happen. You have to have a projection.

I have family in Watkins Glen. I'm sure they will have a blast if I come visit them.

dude, just out of curiosity, are you originally from Ithaca?
I lived in Ithaca my whole life until 18 months ago when I moved to northern california.
Also, are you planning on shooting in Ithaca? What locations? There are some cool spots. Ever think about getting up in the old Gun Factory? That would be cool!

I'm in binghamton, about 40-45 minutes south of Ithaca. I'm interested in filling in as a crew member for any projects if there's any openings, or helping out in any way. Let me know. Thanks.
