If any of you ever wondered what a motion picture camera blimp was all about, I've added a page on the web site that shows details of the ARRI Lightweight Fibre Glass Blimp 16.

It's a beautiful piece of German engineering, circa 1960's. And it certainly quiets the Arriflex 16S, especially when shooting 100 ft internal loads.

You can check it out below:

Thanks for that article! I liked it very much.

That particular blimp, is a very nice medium sized one. Some really old ones were simply houses. Like in the days where everyone was using Mitchel cameras... before the rise of arri and panavision. (actually Arri was around and popular in Europe! Conrad Hall and a friend had license from Arri to sell the cameras in the United States, but no one wanted the german cameras. Not based on quality but simply because they were german... If they only knew!)

I've seen many later built 35mm film blimps which are were usually form fitting around the camera body, and then another blimp for the magazine, just bulking up the shape of the camera and not completely housing it.

PS!

I'm also very glad you got the sound proof glass put back into the blimp. Too many people use vintage blimps without an optical flat or sound proof glass in front of the lens. Little do they know, more then 70% of the camera's noise leaks through/out the lens/ lens port!

That is a great piece of equipment you have! Thank you very much for sharing!
