View Full Version : Film Stock. What Do You Know????

so im a film student at brooks institute and i am in my first film class now i have worked a little with film before and know some but i was thinking and i really dont know much about film stock at all. now i know the you choose depending on the type of movie your shooting for an what type of light you shooting wether it be tungsten or daylight. but i think it would be a cool post to see who uses what and what they like best stuff like that. im goin to be shooting on the Bolex H-16 Reflex. but talk about anything you want 35mm 16mm 8mm, i just thought it would be a cool thread. :thumbup:

Well, you are going to be shooting 16mm. There are two choices really. Kodak and Fuji.

Kodak just came out with the Vision 3 stock last year. 7219 if my memory serves. It's a 500T film stock. Great response. Excellent Color gamut. Great dynamic range. And very low noise floor.

Then you have the vision 2 series. Which is good. There is something for whatever you want to shoot really. Kodak tends to have a more natural feel to it. Whereas Fuji helps colors pop a bit. I don't think anyone could look at a film and tell you what it was shot on.

This however is in the wrong spot. Should be in the actual film section. This is more hollywood film stuff.

I guess since it's a broad topic. Asking specifics would help generate a meaningful discussion that will help you.

yea those were the 2 stocks i was recommended, and my bad i thought this was the film section but ya i do need to think what i really want to know and that will help me better. i guess what i really want is to just know what film stocks do what and how. i wanna know like for projects in the future so i can say with confidence "ya well for that we need this film stock" and so on...... i just feel like i dont know that much about the many diffrent types of film out there. thanks a bunch for your advice!!!!
