Yeah it opened at 6, and I wanted to go early so as not to wait in line. Hoboken is the 2nd most densely populated city in the US, about 40k people in one square mile. I was #2 in line at my station, and when I left the line had already grown to about 40 people. I would have hated to have been there at about 8:30 when everyone tried to stop by on their way to work.

Done. Much less waiting this time around (10 minutes versus 2 hours). Of course, I live in a completely different state now. I'll be avoiding as much media as possible throughout the day.

Walked in and out after seeing weeks of early voters lined up for hours. I figured that 1) a good portion of voters got out of the way early and 2) many more polling places would be open today, so today should be a breeze. I was right. Though, while I was voting, I did notice I was wearing two different shoes.

Just out of curiosity, what technology did you all use for your balloting? Mine was a paper ballot that you mark with a pen, which you then hand feed into a machine. I like the idea of having a paper ballot behind my vote.
Paper ballots here, with the sharpie to fill in the arrow - nothing special. Pretty quick, just about 10 minutes - I did it around 9:30am though...
Agreed and you mean the other TWO hundred million people. What the hell is their laziness problem?
ouch!
Ok, I'm glad everyone is getting out and voting and not to be turd here but let me tell you why I don't anymore.
Over the many years I've able to vote it seems like every issue I have ever cared about voting on has gotten overturned by the local politicians. I don't mean one or two things, it's been countless issues that I've been on the "winning" side and the politicians turn it around, call it an illegal ballot, sue the state, figure out a work-a-round. You name it, they've gotten their way no matter what the voters say.
It's gotten to the point that I just don't spend the hours needed to research the issues on my own (you all research the issues on your own right? You really don't want to vote to join a bandwagon I'm sure....).
I'm not lazy I'm just fine with whatever the rest of you choose(or what the politicians force on us). I know that's pretty shitty considering so many died so I'd have the right to vote but the right to vote means the right to choose not to vote.
Honestly, unless I'm dictator of the world I'm never gonna like the way things are run:beer:

ilauzirika
11-04-2008, 04:53 PM
Paper all the way... Here in Spain we mainly use paper (even though some use electronic which I don't really buy into....).
I prefer the system we use for elections in my university, it uses paper and electronic, you choose a card that has a code, that card goes into a box wich has a electronic reader. In that way you have the fast results that electronic offers and the (in my opinion) safer paper readings......

UGA, you are on a roll today (in this thread alone). We are going into town later to vote with my Grandma and have Subway. Then I will do one of two things:
1) Go to the AP Gov election party
2) Create my own election party on my couch
My friend's dad stockpiled booze and I am thinking I might need some for myself. I mean, I already committed voter fraud, why not throw underage drinking into the mix too? :)

Because you need 270 Electoral votes to win. Obama already has 338 vs. Mc Cain's 152 as of 1AM Eastern. Not enough Electoral votes left for McCain to reach 270.
