"Rumors (http://nikonrumors.com/2008/11/03/world-wide-nikon-event-on-november-20.aspx)chatter started to pick up in anticipation of the world wide Nikon event on November 20th.

The first report came today from a Canadian Nikon Pro Dealer indicating that a new 21 or 24 MP body will be released on November 20th."

You know, high expectations always create huge frustrations

But I'm betting that this maybe is THE camera we are hoping for (1080p, full manual controls, pro bitrate)

It will surely have the rolling shutter like the D90 and maybe the five minutes limit but with Vistavision sized sensors (huge DOF + High ASA)

And rumors are stating that it will REPLACE the D3. You know that in Japan the number 4 is a word close to Death. I hope it is in the hyped way

Nikon better should have something that compares to Canon asap.

Related to this may be REDs Nov. 13th announcement:
http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21039

Maybe the "new" Scarlet allows to mount Nikon lenses.

Hmmm... is it any surprise then that RED is planning their big Scarlet/Epic unveiling exactly a week earlier?
:)

EDITED TO ADD:
Just saw buildyo had already mentioned it.
It's going to be an exciting month for camera announcements.

I'm with you, Luis. RED tryin' to belabor some purchases, maybe?

I can't wait, though. I have my fingers crossed for Nikon and my Wallet.

The best thing about all these announcements trying to one up eachother is that our wallets will hopefully be the big winners -

Wasn't Nikon in the hand held camera game a long long time ago in the 70's with a revolutionary 8mm camera or something?!? Maybe this might be there come back.

Would be crazy if they introduced a new pro video camera that will be revolutionary before red.

The great thing is that after the 5D, Nikon pretty much HAS to include a video mode in its flagship. Here's hoping they'll fix the various problems of D90 and 5D.

Then again, Nikon went for only 12MP with the D3, despite the trend for a lot more resolution than that. Maybe their new camera won't come with video and be advertised as a "tool for the professional" with "no useless gimmicks" :Drogar-Shock(DBG):

I wonder if Nikon/Red are going to announce a Canon beating joint DSLR project . . . . .

I just got my D90. Been testing... Very promising. However, I really hope the Nikon announcement includes a firmware update for D90 with wish list items.

Cheers,

I really hope my dealer doesn't call me and tell me my 5DII is in before all these announcements get sorted out. If their "BIG" announcement is that they're introducing a 21-24MP for a "still" only camera. I've got new for them. It's NOT !!!!

I've also heard the rumor that its being postponed until Dec 1st.

Maybe they need the extra time to give it 3k? This will be Nikon's flagship camera so there is a slight possibility that they are redoing little bits in response to RED... though its more likely that they've got sensor changes again.

Scenario one: Nikon will launch D800 with FX, 1080 and let the D90 be as it is.
Scenario two: Nikon will launch D800 with FX, 1080 and release firmware for the D90 with improved features.

Canon has upped the game with the 5d MKII and Nikon could have it covered with the D800 lettin the D90 be as is. One thing is sure, they will battle to be on top!

Ya, i think its DEC 1st... Either way im stoked. I think nikon will pull threw with something better or equal to the MKII. They have to!

BUt... actually releasing something on dec1st is not likely?!? That means this mysterious camera is already in production and a few selected photographers have already tested it in the field. Why didnt they pre-release and "tease" the market a few months before like canon has done with there MKII.

Maybe there no camera but a mock body example of whats to come for 09'

Its seems to be a mistake by a PR agency in Denmark. See more here (my blog):

The new NOV 20th seems to be DEC 1st. I hope Nikon will leak some information before that date.

in that case the d90 buffer upgrade on the 1st DEC might be TRUE !!!!

After shooting with the D90 for a while I got to edit footage from our HVX-200 today and what a relief to get a sharp and clean image. Let's keep our fingers crossed for buffer, sharpness and resolution upgrade.

Same experience here, except it was weeks of fussing with d90 footage, then into a RED raw project.. grading ultra-robust 16bit Tiffs..
Like going from a nightmare straight into a wet dream...
