I've been checking the black friday sites trying to look for a 32"-37" HDTV for my edit suite. Not much posted yet, but it's only 17 days away.

Anyone else looking for anything, or have any leads on good deals?

HDTV prices are supposed to go down even after Black Friday.
But why even wait til Black Friday when you can get one sooner?
Circuit City just released this list of stores closing and their sales start this Wednesday!

The last few years Bf gas been crap. Some retailer have actually started posting their best deals the week BEFORE BF, because they know shoppers are checking website and prices, so they try to cut out the competition by putting their deals out early.
I don't think I will be looking for anything this year.
3 years ago I got a Compaq laptop for $100, then last year I got a 42" Panasonic plasma 1080p for $1199, doing some creative price matching techniques. I bought it for $1199 at Fry's, then took my receipt to best buy, where I talked them into price match, and scored $100 off a warranty or something like that.
Oh, and be sure to goto monoprice.com for mounts/cables.

Checked out Circuit City - stuff listed as sale is not available/out of stock for every store within 100 miles, nor online.

...and last time I checked, some of their prices weren't great to begin with. Most of their LCD HDTVs were about 10%15% higher than the other places I was looking at.

I've got a beef with Circuit City... several times now I've seen incredible deals posted, but not available... with a "notify me" option... then they notify you and the price is $200+ higher.
In my experience CC is not usually the cheapest place for anything. I always do a little check-through on the net, and include them in my search... but I rarely buy from them. Another frustrating thing that has happened there a couple times... is having to get them to match their own on-line price.
I've had even worse experiences at Best Buy however... but I put them both in the same category... if they have what you want... at a great price... and you can think of it like a trip to the Mexican flea market... then it can still be a positive experience.

Well, they'll be less of them to hate now--

The Sams Club deal amazes me. It's hard enough to find a Wii and they are throwing in a significantly more. I bet they will only have a few of them per store. 99% of people who come looking for them won't get one, but Sams Club wins because they have you in the store.

Maybe one of the reasons why they went belly up.

the wii deal posted earlier was a hoax. apparently the person that did the adscan photoshopped the price. the real one is $425.

Is HD below 52" really such a difference from SD?
over here in PAL land I don't think you really start to see (literally) the benifits of HD unless its over 40" plus IMHO.
Anway I guess this has been discussed already, ahh back to Nyquist sampling theory*...

Maybe not. But at that price, why not? Plus it has a better contrast ratio than the other one I just bought.

hd looks so much better than 480i. the difference for PAL may not be as great, but for NTSC it is huge.

Jim, that's an incredible deal! The set is listed at $599 and you're saying it will be $450?
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you want to look at it) I'm already in the market for 50" in (hopefully) 1080p... but that 32" would be a fantastic bedroom TV for somebody!

It's a little confusing to me. The sku# is the same (290311) as the one in the little catalog I get. Although the catalog shows the online price at $549, not $599.
But either way, the catalog still shows it at $449. Whether that's a $100 markdown from the online, or a $150 markdown doesn't matter I guess.

That is sick...
That's why I don't participate in Black Friday. Hell, you can find all these deals and prices online well before black friday if you look hard enough.
It's funny what it does to a person if you tell them that if they show up at 4am they might have a chance at getting a TV for a few hundred less. American greed at its best.

Yesterday we gave thanks for all our blessings, big and small.
Today, we'll leave a boot-print on the face of a dying man to get our hands on a crappy HDTV for $150 off.
Depressing.

Crazy.
That is really unfortunate and really sad that something like this can happen in our supposedly civilized society. The really freighting thing is that this kind of thing happens every year. Maybe not a death but people are injured every year on Black Friday.

The local CC is going out of biz here in Santa Barbara. They've got some amazing deals. I almost bought a GPS system for my car, normally $400 but slashed to $391. I haven't seen deals this good since CompUSA went out of business.

My wife and I went out on our first BF event. It was ... crazy! I will NEVER go to Walmart again on BF. It was the most crowded, chaotic, scary place I've ever been. At a different Walmart a few miles away, a man and woman got into a fist fight over a TV. Maybe it's just the way I was raised, but i can't imagine punching a woman in the face for a TV that I still had to pay for. Free, on the other hand...
I think the craziest thing about today was the fact that we didn't really have anything in mind that we wanted. We left Wal-mart after about a half hour empty handed. I told my wife we were the worst BF shoppers in the history of the world. "We came to Walmart at 5AM on Black Friday just to browse."

Got a darn good blu-ray player at Walmart to day for 128.00 :). I had to avoid being trampled by a stampede but it was worth it. I got there at 3:40 A.M. Got a few blus as well at Walmart and Circuit City some very good buys.

Dude, I got a ton of ink at Compusa at less than half off when they went belly up Plus, they were selling FCS2 for $400. Hard to complain about that.
But yeah, went I went to CC last week, the deals were tepid at best.

Same here. Went last week. The deals were not any better than the prices at Best Buy or Amazon. I might pop later this week if they're still there. If they are then they will probably have better deals.
Speaking of Amazon, if you're into video games they have some pretty good sales going on this weekend. Mostly on older games but some are pretty cheap.
