I think you all are going to love what we have in store. It is really going to be a good time and a great learning environment. Raptor and I have taken this over. And we are planning on really doing it right.

Stay tuned people. It's going to be a good one!

... Raptor and I have taken this over...
That's right Matty. And unless the rest of yews Mugs wanna a lead breakfast, you'll
get on board. Next we take Manhatten, then we take Berlin.

Btw, you look good in a white hat Matty. The little misses pick that out?

Hey Folks.
Good to see you again Josh. As Matty said, I think you'll like the new format.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm going to have some fun.

All Right!! Looking forward to participating and learning a lot! I've been in modeling mode for a bit but I'll change gears and give it a go.

Hey Tower. Well were not really here to teach you, I mean what the hell are we going to teach you that you can't learn yourself? It's more an expressive outlet to do whatever it is you do. So, we're going to give subjects, and you can do whatever you want. A still photoshop pic, an animation, a matte painting still or camera mapped animation, or a full 3d anim.

We can't teach anyone how to paint, model, understand physics, ect. It's more of a learning thing from others.

The judging part sucks since we're not really competing, but that's part of the package.
I hate it, always have, it does not prove anything, but it goes with the territory.

If it's just us three or four, I do not care, I'm ready to rock. It's just a place to get together and share doing what we like doing with a common goal to help us all get a bit better.

I'm going to do my thang. If it bombs it bombs then it's done for a lonnnnng time. I'll do my part. It's up to the rest of you if you want this fest or not. We'll be giving you all of the freedom to do anything you want. Not much more we can do than that.

Yours truly, Jimmy.

Oh I wish I had a little misses. Alas - I am very much still single.

I think that you will find creative control is totally up to you. As you can tell the name is different. I am working on the back end to maybe toss together a few tutorials on basics for stuff. And maybe we will see how that works for you all. The least I will do is show my entire workflow process in form of tutorial. So there might be a little learning by way of the fest alone.

I can tell you one thing though - we are really going to push you guys to make work in progress threads. To keep us up to date on what you are doing. What issues you are running into. Fun stuff like that. Not going to be required - but I think we all can learn from each other.

And like Raptor said. If it bombs - it bombs. This is the third reincarnation of this particular fest. Who knows. The future of it is dependent on those submitting.

I'd like to get in on this one. Having enough time is key because it takes so long to pull this stuff off. I'm also intrigued at the hint of it being more open. I'd like to explore more things in the NPR world and more abstract. If nothing else, it's good learning and R&D time, both of which have been escaping me as of late.

So, when do we get started?

We should be going within a couple weeks. Just waiting for the dvxfest to wind down a bit. The duration for these will be 4 weeks to get something in. If we find people need more time than that we'll make some adjustments for future fests. We'll see how it goes.

This is perfect. I've been wanting to collaborate with some CG artists on some projects, and this will be a good place to get some people together and build a team.

Cool. We are not synced up with dvxfest, but we'll try and time it out so that some of our subject matter is applicable to the current dvxfets. Maybe some guys will get some exposure and get picked up for a scene or two in the fest.
Suggestions are welcome as to how we can work the fests together.

Simon, love to see you drop in and do something. You've been hiding on us, apparently. It'd be good to get behind what your doing these days. Your input would be appreciated. Nice VFX work in your fest entry.

Just caught this thread... So... the festival is a work in progress?

Mattykins
11-13-2008, 09:50 PM
Raptor and I are really working on this. I wouldn't expect anything for a few weeks. We are going to do this right when we do it. I just got an email from him an hour ago. So yes - this is a work in progress. We have two failed attempts of learning. And we really want to be sure the third time is a charm. Either way - you all should enjoy what we have to offer.

Here's a C4D tutorial for anyone who's looking to add a ghost. Looks kinda cool and one should be able to knock it out in a weekend. As well as the tutorial, the scenes files include the final scene with skeleton and all textures. However, you'll have to reload/point each material to the new texture location, in the 'txt' folder.
