Thinking about going to NAB this year...anybody else?
Usual oversaturation of video technology...and chessy bars.
Amazing if you've never gone.

I may be in Vegas for a bachelor party at the same time. No reason I can't get away for a few.

You can get free passes for the show if you look around. But hotel rooms are at some of their highest prices during NAB week, so even if you get in the show for free, finding a place to stay can be expensive.

hey, if you reserve your room via the NAB site, you get considerable discounts at certain hotels....and go here for a free VIP Exhibit pass:

http://www.lnainc.com/

I've registered and it saved me at least $150.

I plan to be there flyin in on saturday to do the tourist thing and hittin' the exhibit floor Monday morning.

good luck.

AAAAAHHHH Barry let me get this right...hmmm.
Aren't we ... staying with you. :P
Ticket are relatively easy to get, call a large video supplier(maybe EVS....Rush) and see if they have any comp tickets. There suppliers (Panasonic, Sony etc) usually give them a ton.

Yeah i gotta find a room or a cardboard box...

Ill be there. I got an email straight from nab with a free invite, I think because I have gone the last couple years so Im probally in the computer. I think the first time i went i got a free pass from Pinnacle of all places.

As for hotels.. I always stay at the luxor.. if you wait till the last day you can get very good deals. A little risky though.

Well, risky as far as getting a room, sure... but not necessarily a risky room! Man, we got a few dives around here that you might not want to "risk".

As for hotels, they get less expensive the more you're willing to drive. Go out to Primm (which is about 40 miles away) and you should be able to get a room under $50, at places like Buffalo Bill's or Kactus Kate's or whatever.

Dont you have a big barn studio? set up some bunks and you got a new side biz lol.

Im sure if we got a dozen or so DVXusers together we could get some good rates at one of the normal hotels. I dont know why I always end up at the Luxor, its the farthest hotel you can get on the strip away from the convention center.

Hmmm. Bunk beds. Nah, don't think so.

The Mandalay Bay is a little farther from the convention center, but not much. Luxor is actually pretty nice.

yeah HMY has some great deals sometimes, i think its $179 right now to Vegas, not sure if thats one way or return.

All I know is I will never fly West Jet or Tango or Jetsgo again.. I hate the rift raft that ends up sitting beside you and that you get a bag of peanuts for a 5 hour flight.

HMY also has less rows of seats which means more leg room, and I am 6' 7" so every inch helps.

I hear ya on the other carriers, I used to fly from Van to Saskaoon every month on Helljet and the jokes and glee club stuff drove me crazy. I ususally just wore earplugs and tried to sleep with my ankles around my knees.
No wonder my back is screwed...

I've been going to the BEA/NAB (joint convention, they overlap each other) for some years now. The BEA's a wash, but the NAB always has cool eye candy. I skipped it all in 2003 and I think I'll skip it again this year.
I've always stayed at the Stardust as it was just a walk down the street from the convention center. Tho, I couldn't say whether it was a good price or not because it was always free for me! hehe.
