I heard from some friends that it'll be a pretty good camera when it comes out in december.I haven't heard much of it though. I am seriously considering purchasing it and I was wanting to know any opinions on it from a standpoint of cameras below $5,000 especially other Sony cameras.

Here's a Link to it:

Thanks for the help!

If the street price won't go below $4500, then Z7U is a better deal since it came with a CF recorder.

I'd buy this for $4500 but I know where you're coming from when the Canon's are so readily available.

B&H has the Z5U listed at $4299, but also has the obligatory "add to cart for lower price" display. Since the camera's not available yet, the lower price isn't listed. But one would assume the actual street price will be a little lower.

The street price of the MRC1 Compact Flash recorder is $850, so at $4300 the Z5U is (only) about $150 cheaper than the Z7U if you factor in the recorder.

Good Point! I didn't think about the flash drive and it versus the Z7.

I was told yesterday by BH that the release has been delayed until January or February of 2009 now.

I viewed this camera at the recent DV Expo, its a fantastic camera, I believe the V1 will be replaced by this camera, larger chips, wide angle 20x lens. and the lens is supposed to be better than the V1 20x. The video that this camera produces is amazing, its a Z7 with a fixed 20x lens. and at $4200 and the optional digital recorder, its a hard toss up to the Z7 that comes with the recorder, the lens is the thing.

Z7U better buy if you want the CF recorder & plan on using extra lenses.

if you are NEVER going to take off the lens of the Z7U (like most of the Canon XL users), the Z5U is a better way to go b/c you get a longer lens.

I think it is pointless to buy an interchangable lens camera if you're never going to change the lens.
