I'm really impressed... I took my EX1 with me to a pumpkin farm with my family this evening. After the sun had set and it was getting dark and we headed back to our car, but my little boy wanted to play on an old tractor we saw on the way back. I figured it was too dark for any good natural light footage, but I decided to shoot anyway. I didn't even switch the gain, it was on "low", which in my settings is -3. I am blown away... the footage is noise-free, gorgeous, made it look much lighter than it actually was, with wonderful warm tones. This puppy ROCKS! I am very very impressed. I love this camera!

Not long after I got it, I set mine up in my office with no ambient light. I just saw that footage again tonight. I could read the titles of the books. My room meters at .8 FC. I just put the meter next to the bookshelf.
Again, nearly noise free, and I also keep the gain at -3.
People think this camera is too clean. Heck, I can add noise in post. Or push the gain to +12 or something. But getting video that clean in that little light is amazing. Buck, can you post a still?

Howdy...
I just finished a 'dusk shoot' for a realtor with the EX-1. I was really concerned about the lighting as the sun had gone down and towards the end, I was pushing +12 to get the light levels up.
Upon editing, I was actually pretty happy with the results. Let me know what you think:

Damn Ben, some people have deep pockets! BTW, nice work man. What profile were you using (gamma matrix ect..)?
Hey, look me up if you need another EX1 videographer to do multicam work.
I live in Casa Grande AZ.

Here's my contribution to the EX1 low light library. This owl was in a tree, at the end of my driveway. The porch lights were on, about 90' away. It was too dark for the naked eye to see anything in this tree, but the EX1 saw it. I did use SLS slow shutter mode, but only a few frames, otherwise the bird would be blurred. It turned out great:

Mark, that's amazing under those conditions.

Mark, I have a feeling your columns did not translate well in this page. ;)
It's very hard to dissect.

ok, I tested my camera vs my roommates, they are exactly the same. Now, I should not say my camera is noisy as hell, but it is noisy, coming from a 100b, its much cleaner than that or the orginal hvx, but I am not seeing clarity in the blacks like the red produces, but hey, I might be comparing apples to oranges here. Whith plenty of ling it make no difference usually, I think it has almost a film like grain at -3 gain. but that is just me.

I covered a friend doing some flyfishing at daybreak.
I had some gain when it was still dark. And before the sun got anywhere near the horizon I had gain set at zero. I don't know exact times or luma values. All I know is that it was still rather dim and I didn't need any gain.
Got some great-looking shots. He didn't catch a whole lot. But that's not Sony's fault!
