View Full Version : Should I send my camera in for repair?

I've had my PMW-EX1 since may now, and for some reason I never even checked any of them standard problems that they've been having.

I finally decided to check the battery issue, and it's definitely there.. I kept the battery in for about 8 hours while I slept, and it went down about 18 minuted. The backfocus vignetting I'm not sure is there, but if anyone has a link to how to perform those tests that would be awesome.

Anyway, due to the fact that I should be eligible for repairs from sony for the battery, just wondering if anyone could share their experience with me as to how long it's gonna take, etc. in getting my camera back. I also really want the 1.11 firmware so I can use the phu-60k, would they upgrade it to that firmware for free since I already have an existing issue, or would I still have to pay the $100?

I have version 1.03 firmware right now, is it safe to assume I'm going to have these problems and should just put them down on the repair slip when I bring it in? I'd much rather have a sony professional test to see if those problems exist rather than doing it myself in case I miss it.

any input would be cool.

I just checked out the service center, and it's literally 3 miles from my house, so apparently I can just drive it over there then pick it up when it's ready, I think I should just go do this.

I think you answered your own question. :-) 3 miles is walking distance!

Not with a $6500 camera in your hands it's not! LOL!

I guess what I'm really asking is should I have them check for vignetting issues, backfocus, etc. at the same time as this even though I've never really noticed an issue, just in case, or will they end up charging me if there is no problem.
