I've had my diy slider sitting around for a while unused so I finally pulled it out and put it together and shot some footage. Still need a stronger tripod head, but it works great.

Absolutely stunning. Native lens? (I know you had some RR stuff posted earlier)
None of what you've posted IMO seems out of the ordinary. All looks very clean and very acceptable.
Going to try to hit some colors here in Utah before the middle of next week. Absolutely my favorite time of year.

yup, that's with the stock camera.
This footage actually looks better than some of the other stuff I've shot as far as noise goes.

Had you changed any of the profiles? Gammas?
My guess is most of those coming from the HVX are expecting it to be exactly the HVX sans tape carriage and while Panny pretty much touts it as that, seems like it is its own beast and just requires some TLC beforehand.
I'm working with some A1 footage right now and noise is definitely there with ND on, some very similar to what I've seen here.

You can asseble your own in a flash with 'linear sliders' It's available from many sources. Do a search and see the infinite products available.
IE: http://www.nbcorporation.com/pdf/NB_Linear_Systems.pdf
Just take a look at the single or double rod slider. They are SUPER PRECISE and smooth as a 'spit on the door knob' as they say down under :)
You can also look in surplus sections and other sources for these linears.
I may throw one together in a flash :)

Haven't weighted it, but it is real light...easy on the back. I have a good 36" of travel, how long is yours? (that just doesn't sound right!)

not sure, I'd say probably around a foot and a half of travel. It's heavy as hell, I may end up building another one that is lighter if I can find the right materials.
Would you mind weighing your and posting the weight? I'm interested in your track because mine is heavy as hell.

ZazaCast seems to have the ideal set up. Mine is larger rail and a much larger slide block. I'd be Zaza's is at least a pound lighter than mine.

The rail & carriage (on a bathroom scale...it's all I have) weighs about 5lbs.
It's really not tough to move around at all. I love the thing and find myself using it all the time now. I built it for "An Enchanting Twist Of Peccadilloes" and it turned out to be a dream to work with....so, I then shot my second TwilightFest entry "TWISTED" and used the slide. It was great to just leave the camera, which had the Red Rock M2 on it, attached to it all the time. Even if I didn't use it for moving shots, it gave me 3' of play for framing shots without having to move the tripod. Really handy.
Oh, and note, I just throw a 15 lb. sandbag on the bottom of the tripod and I can slide all the way out to the end...no problem. It even lets you slide right to the end and pan the camera 90 degrees straight down! This come in handy sometimes. You'll be able to see all these different shots in my fest films!

Wow, surprisingly smooth! Again, like your composition.
Those almost all of your dolly + pan + tilt shots were perfectly executed... supa-cool.

It took me at least 5-6 tries to get it right

But it had to be all because of the head right? I imagine it had to be asking for mercy with the slider... Or maybe you didn't have a couple of shot bags on the sticks and it wanted to wiggle around on the ground?
SO:
1. Did you have a loaded camera with your M2 and additional gadgetry or was it bare? What was on it?
2. Do you think a big O'Connor and a weighted down tripod, possibly a second operator would do the trick so you didn't have to try several times?

My 503 holds up really well with just the stock HPX, I wouldn't put the redrock on without monopods on the ends. The way I have the slider setup is a bit akward for pan and tilt. I have to pan the whole indislider so it makes for some weird weight shifts. I just finished up a music video yesterday with it and I had no troubles. It just took some practice to get used to. Evevtually I'll refine it so it's a bit more user friendly, but for now it's working great.
