View Full Version : Is there a possible incentive for wobble / noise issue HPX170s?

I have spoken to a couple of panasonic sales reps in the last couple of weeks.

There was some hint from them that if enough of the HPX170 owners with issues made a "stink" (in their words) that panasonic would be prepared to offer some sort of incentive to the users to keep the camera and endure the repair process.

I do not know if panasonic would really respond this way, but I know there has been plenty of a stink on this forum about the wobble and now the chroma noise.

I spoke just today to a dealer and he said his panasonic rep stated that not enough people have complained about the wobble or noise issues to make the company think it is incentive worthy.

I for one would like something to make the lost work and downtime of my new 5k camera worth it to me.

Am I off base here?

What would be good enough for you? Another 16gb card?

If there is an incentive, there will surely be complaints about that too.

If anything they need to do something to keep people interested in this new camera and not ignored just because of these small problems. Either price reduction or throw in a 32gb card.

On what basis?

If it is a warranty claim, the warranty sets forth the relief.

I'm as disappointed as the rest, but I believe the company acted within reason to address the issue.

What chroma noise issue thread represents "plenty of stink?"

I personally think more need to come forth with problematic footage for the noise issue. As per the wobble obviously Panasonic found that to be an issue that needed remedy. As for incentive / reimbursement of time lost? How do you measure that? Unfortunately with new products, bugs are worked out and in many cases it's the initial buyers who are paying the price. You can say this about cameras, cars, anything that is part of your business.

I will state that NO other camera company has been this active on a forum trying to help remedy problems and offer support for their products. You don't see Sony, Canon or JVC anywhere like you do with Jan. I'm sure if it's a problem, it will be remedied. Is that in form of reimbursement for lost time? Not sure that's a fair way to look at it. You can always rent a camera. Profit margin may slide for a bit but you can still work.

I'm waiting for my own cam to make my own decision. I've seen good and not so good footage so far from the cam. I think more need to chime in and some better tests run.

the fact is that this camera did not have the impact that panasonic was predicting, not only that but a lot of people I know and myself included were turned off since the wobble issue came to light, I am going to wait till NAB and see what happens, I am not paying 5k for a camera that is less then perfect. I am spending my hard earned money so I want the product that I was promissed, is that too much to ask?

All good points.
I was wondering what the consensus would be.
Part of my post was a relaying of what I heard.

Will all due respect, I don't know of any cam at any price point that is perfect.

The HPX170 is our third Panasonic.

We judge a cam but what our clients say and whether we make money.

They like it and we do.

and the image sold us as well.

I got a response today from Panasonic that they would do the upgrade on my camera and pay shipping both ways. Sounds like good response to me.

>PBTSC Service will email you shipping label for your camera to be shipped at our expense to have lens issue corrected.
We'll email shipping label next week once all parts are received at our service locations.
Unit will be shipped back to you at our expense as well.

David, you misunderstood my post, when I say perfect I mean perfect as far as funtionality is concerned, I know there is no perfect cam in the world, the cam that you use may not fit the needs of joe the wedding shooter etc.
my point is that panasonic made a few duds now some people find that acceptable if the camera gets repaired or replaced, perfectly ok in my book but I am the kind of person that if I see a certain product is having problems and issues I will hold on to see what happens, until then my clients are happy with hvx footie and my two hvx's keep paying themselves over and over so I am happy but I had my eyes set on upgrading both cams to 170's and due to the issues I am holding off :)
