I thought I was going crazy when I saw all the mosquito noise in my Panasonic BT-LH1700W monitor from my HPX 170. Well, after reading all the posts about other people experiencing the same thing, I decided to take a few hours and play with all the settings to see if we could get this puppy quiet. This is what I found to make a clean picture.

Turn the detail setting all the way down to -7.
Make sure skin tone detail is on.
Stay away from Cinelike V. That gamma setting is where all the mosquito noise seems to be coming from.

Cinelike D on this camera is much quieter followed by B. Press and all the rest.

I never would've thought Cinelike D would give a quieter image but I can't argue with what I'm seeing on the screen.

I hope this helps.

good find, but the panasonic produces a soft enough image as it is and with using an adapter the last thing i want to do is decrease the detail to get a deent image free o noise.

We scrutinized the image for hours. It didn't seem to get soft as you're suggesting. The image just got cleaner, which of course, made it look better.

wow this is the first time I hear someone recommend skin tone detail to on
I thought it should always always be off, can you fill us in on how this setting is impacting the noise of the image?
what number is your master ped on?

On my hvx 200 it's always off. In the case of the 170, to try to match the 200, turning it on seems to quiet down the noise. It seems like the camera, in it's neutral settings is oversharpened IMHO. Master Ped is 0 right now.

Before a shoot, everyone should plug in to a high quality monitor and experiment with this camera and dial in the settings that they deem appropriate. The LCD screen on the camera is going to make you miss the whole picture. The settings of this camera certainly don't seem to translate proportionally to the 200.

I would just play with the settings til you get what you like. It'll certainly be better than the stock settings you get out of the box.
