I'm not really sure what's going on here but I'm now editing footage from a video that I shot over the weekend and I have to agree with some guys, the footage looks grainy.

here's two separate links, exported as full rez QT movies. Please right click and save as....

ONE (http://itchyhousefilms.com/grain.mov) <--- It's all over the place but mostly in the sky.

TWO (http://itchyhousefilms.com/grain2.mov) <--- Not sure why this exported so crappy but the wall is a mess with grain.

yikes... were you shooting cine D?

give me your scene file settings and I'll go shoot some stuff with similar scenery and I'll see what I come up with.

Yep... pretty grainy... my footage looks grainy as well, I thought it was normal... Can a different setting improve this? DM, why do you ask if it's Cine D?

Some of my footage has looked like that too. In the second clip did you notice the vignette on the edges? My footage has been doing that as well.

I never really thought much of it, but I've gone through all the stuff I have shot so far and the grain definitely is more noticeable.

uploaded in 4:3 for some reason. You can really see the grain in the upper left hand corner. There was still plenty of light out when I shot this.

Pretty much everything i've shot is the same way. You can see the grain pretty bad in this video: http://www.vimeo.com/1872013

anyone to care to share a few seconds of a full rez clip? I can't believe we're all judging this via Vimeo... better than YouTube though.

okay - saw that Jay's were.. I'll look at those.

Here is a still from my video. You can see the grain and vignette. Sorry for the wrong aspect. http://www.liftfilms.net/grain.png

I think the HPX170 is a lot cleaner than the HVX200. This is a typical response from a new camera, Barry Green taught me that a while ago. lol

Camera is great, then it gets bad, then it gets great again when people learn how to use it.

I believe that it's all user Error, myself included, and that the settings just need to be tweaked accordingly. At least that's what I really hope!

Everyone share their Scene File settings and let's see if we can't get to the bottom of this.

So far the cleanest I've seen from the HPX170 would be stock CineV settings. If you don't have them, I think they're in the HPX170 book that came with your camera.

Some noisy lady indeed... Couldn't find the "stock CineV" settings you're referring to mister Kholi... which book would that be? Barry Green's or the Operating Manual? I didn't get Barry's freebie, I'm in Europe, could you post them...?

Quicktime needs an extra component to view this.
Which component?

I am guessing the DVCPRO HD codec. I couldn't get it to run at work but here at home, on the Mac I did all my HVX200 editing on, it plays just fine.
