Anyone have a link to a document that talks about the technical specs of the stock lens on the EX1? In particular, I'm trying to find out wow much does the minimum focus distance change when using the lens's "macro" mode.
Thanks--

In macro mode I can get crisp focus on something literally touching the front of the lens, if that helps.

I can't focus on an object closer than 3 feet or so. The Macro switch doesn't change anything. Sounds like I have to send mine in for servicing.

You have to have the focus ring slid forward, if its slid back in full manual mode then macro mode won't do anything.

gotta read that user manual ! if you put your fingers ON the lens in macro mode, you can pretty much get them in perfect focus

As Fohdeesha said the focus ring must be in the forward position (AF/MF mode) and zoom needs to be relatively wide for macro to work properly. As soon as you have the focus ring pulled back into Full MF mode the macro function is disabled.

Mine doesn't seem to focus sharply at less than 3 feet too, and I'm usually in auto mode with the focus ring forward. Hmmm. Maybe the auto focus is simply locking on to something just beyond the immediate foreground? I'll have to do some more trials.

Yeah, I wouldn't use autofocus in macro mode. Also, in manual focus with macro, it can take a few full turns of the ring to get the focus range correct. So before saying that "it won't focus in macro mode", keep turning that ring like theres no tomorrow.

I just did a quick close up test, I put text just a couple inches from the lens and it focused fine, razor sharp! The text was all the way across the lens though so I think my problem before was the auto focus locking onto something further than the closest thing.
For some reason I was thinking with the lens pushed forward, you are basically in "auto focus" mode?

I can see the confusion but the label for the ring forward position is AF/MF and pulled back is FULL MF as autofocus does not work with that mode. Autofocus is engaged/disengaged with the switch that's right between the zoom and iris rings.
