When I saw the new thread pop up I thought you were starting with a week to go-- effectually causing my brain to explode. But now that I see you've already shot-- I'm relieved-- I love the poster, feels very grindhousey to me, but I could be wrong. Good luck! looks like fun!

First review!

First off.... small things. The audio dialogue was right channel heavy and pretty hissy. A filter or two could clean up the hiss. The last line with the bride that finishes the opening scene.... she's looking the wrong way. At least that's how it seems at times throughout.

The good stuff..... pretty well shot, good framing for most of the scenes. That and I loved the lead actress! She came off very well. Good direction.
The story was also very good and left an impact. Again, the lead actress is very natural and I thought she did a great job. The choice of music wasn't bad either.

Overall this was quite a surprise.

Nice work, keep it up!

thank you for the words!

i will happily pass off your comments to Stacey! She worked very hard to pull off her role(s)!

as for the audio, yeah, i had difficulty with this, i used an octava and i do not know why it went heavy to one channel. i had the same problem with my other flick, jon jacob. gotta fix this... and i did wish to fix the hiss! ran out of time!

thanks for the heads up on where the bride is looking too, i tried to keep her in line with the always moving "other one". i may have overcompensated.

and as for the music, i luckily worked with Leandro Gardini who i think did an amazing job with this score and with my other film, jon jacob schmidt! ( check that film out too! )

i happily recommend Leandro to anyone who needs a score. He is a tremendous talent and he is really cool to work with...

Your lead reminded me of Natalie Portman....which can only be a good thing.

I enjoyed the story. Some of your shots by the water were really good, but not all of them matched each other. The contrast seemed to vary from shot to shot.

Overall i liked it and I'm looking forward to your future work.

you should see Stacey's pics of her when she was younger, she could've easily passed for Portman's twin from that role in the Assassin!

as for the shots by the water, all but one in the flick are from the same day. its just that i ran through the dialogue with Stacey first and then my character and then i had both act together. the color changed with each passing minute. i tried to add a red/orange color to the first set of shots which did not really have any. i am not skilled enough to match all of the shots exactly. i used vegas color correction and color correction 2 to do the best i could. any other way to color correct in vegas?

what you see in the film was from our third attempt at the beach. i got decent results the first time but the script was just a bit off for my liking. the second time we went a prop plane decided to directly circle overhead for the entirety of the magic hour! brutal. third time we got the goods.

i figured i was lucky enough to get what i did, being that it was october in ny and it was still relatively warm ( and sunny!).

Stacey did such a tremendous job at the beach too, she nailed her part in 3 takes tops. that allowed us to move forward and finish.

thanks so much for the comments!

Enjoyed the film. Tell me, is "Blue Balls, PA" anywhere near "Intercourse, PA?" LOL.
Again, the audio needs work and I noticed a continuity problem where the gun was still on the bed with the bride, yet the Devil Inside had it in her hands (4:59). lighting could be tweaked too.

Keep up the good work.

its also near Bird In Hand, Pa, not that i have even been there, ironically, i believe it is Amish country. :)

my audio does need work, i ran out of time to fix it properly, hopefully i will be able to go back and fix it! ouch, i missed that at 4.59! gotta look at that one. thanks so much for commenting, my fellow two movie manufacturer!

glad you liked it!

I have visited Blue Balls and man I sure wouldn't want to live there. Funny short i think the actress that payed the twins could have been a little better. And for future reference the use of names sounded weird babe babe babe babe... Good job getting both of your entries done.

I really enjoyed your film. Very Twilight Zone subject matter. Your actress was very good, really pulled off the split personality - seemed like two different characters.

My main critique would be the crossing the line issue. I know that in the heat of shooting, especially filming out of continuity, it is easy to forget the axis. My suggestion is to use storyboards (stick figures is perfect) or a floor plan to keep track of your camera placement. I know it helps me.

Look forward to your next movie.

Pauly in Blue Balls! got pics?

thanks for the comments. i went with "babe" and "tiger" to give it an over the top kind of feel to it. maybe this wrecked your impression of my lead's performance. maybe not. thanks for the feedback:thumbup:

thanks for commments! especially for the advice. i did have a storyboard but i did not properly compensate for all of the mirrors in the room! i kept getting my light fixture stuck in my shots so i had to more or less adjust on the fly. for the most part i kept em out except for a couple. i will keep a closer eye to what you mean...

thought the acting was a bit stilted, but a good story overall (if a bit predictable), and good production values. fade the audio at the very end.

Woah hoz... you were all over that line with this one. Also, there was the shot where the girl in black takes the assault rifle from the couch where the girl in white is sitting... when you cut back to the girl in white, the rifle is still on the couch (it's at 5:00). You may want to crop-in on that shot... framing out the rifle on the couch.

That was the negative critique. Now for the positive.

Your story was good... idea, character choices and execution. The girl was very convincing playing two roles. Attractive as well. Your guns were great props. Airsoft? Way better than my gun. Good flick!

It took me a while to get into this, probably because of the really really low audio. At some point I forgot there was only girl playing the two of them - so it worked! Hard to do, too, congratulations on getting it right.

Things to improve: better acting, better audio, and lose the "How to lose... " shot at the end, we got it.

thanks for commenting! i def need better audio, maybe this has something to do with the request for better acting, i really think my lead did a tremendous job pulling off 2 roles. the acting of the guy needs work! ( me! )

did you mean to lose the entire ending shot of the clothes on the floor too? or just the book. i did question the book's appearance, but i figured i'd go with it since i had the bride reading from it in the beg of the flick. i try to wrap my flicks all the way around.

BTW - in my opinion, you have the best shot of the contest! - the shed. unbelievable shot!

Fun film. i liked the duality of the white and black. A bit cliche, but it fit the fun of the world. I'm all for casual absurdity and you definitely got that down. I felt the acting was well enough. The script was a bit stilted. Maybe I wanted to see them in more locations? Anyway, I too forgot that it was the same actress. Good job on the edit. Keep it up!

Thought the lead did well in the two roles. And she looks VERY familiar, and it's not just "one of those faces," or "I'm thinking she looks like Natalie Portman." I swear I've seen her before. Has she done other DVXfest entries?

glad you liked the acting!

Stacey hasn't acted in anything here before, but she has lived a rather worldly life already, so maybe you did see her some where... She looks even better in person, i was really lucky she wanted to film these roles.

Good job on getting two entries done man! I liked the concept you had and the way you demonstrated it through the black and white clothing. You had some good lines in there and like I said in your other thread, I liked the actress' performance. Audio was really low and the back and forth shots on the beach had two different color and lighting grades but overall, it's good work.
