I'm new to this whole SDHC thing and am considering getting the HMC150 very soon. One thing that I am concerned about is what cards to get. I know that they need to be SDHC and that they need to be Class 6. But is there any particular brands that are better than others? Also, what are the best and the most cost effective as well?
The last thing I want is a cheap card that would possibly fail on me resulting in loosing footage. that is something I dead.

They can be class 4. I have a sandisk as well as a transcend card. THey both work fine. my transcend card was like 10 bucks for an 8gb

Class 4 is all you need for the highest recording modes - PH 1080p and 720p.
Class 6 is very good for moving data from your card to your computer or back-up drive/s.
I like SanDisk Extreme cards myself and Panasonic cards but all you really need is class 4.
I'm so use to 60 minutes max recording time from miniDV tapes that 100 minutes on a 16GB is more than enough for me plus I like the idea of two 16's vs. one 32... So from a size standpoint I think 16's are as high as I'll go.

The 32 gigs don't seem very cost effective. I've been using 8gig Adata and getting 50 minutes of video on them.
I think there's something to be said in terms of putting all your eggs in one basket!
I'd be devastated if I lost 3 hours of shooting due to a corrupt 32GB card & these SD cards are so darn fragile & easy to loose (not like bulky tapes). It's a catch 22 - do you get one big card that you don't remove from the camera until in a safe environment but then to ensure redundancy it's not a bad idea to have the footage spread across numerous smaller cards (safety in numbers?)
I know with my Zoom H4 digital recorder, in order to get the SD card out you have to flick it slightly so that the spring loaded ejector pops it up high enough so that you can pull the card out with your fingers. On a couple of occasions the card has actually launched it self right out of the recorder landing somewhere on the floor ;)
This technology will no doubt bring new issues with it.
I wonder if there is a secure wallet/lanyard combination for SD cards, my brother who's a still photographer has a really funky case for his CF cards.

I've been using the transcend SD cards in my SD9 and they are solid and super cheap. Just get used to putting the lock on them to tell which ones you've shot and what's clean.

I agree. Many professional still photographers advise use of a couple smaller cards vs. One big cards. Not only can the larger cards currupt easier, but in the event that you ruin one of the smaller cards, you atleast saved half your footy. Also, I like the Panny cards. They just seem like mini P2's to me.
