I come home today and there is AE CS3 sitting on my desk. My girlfriend rocks! Now I gotta figure out how to use this beast.:cool:

you are kidding!

Good for you. Give your girlfriend a big hug, and tell her she just gave you the ticket to a bigger world. And also tell her, I have quite a few software needs if she is feeling generous.

Make sure you check out the Tutorial link at the top of the page. Ask questions here, get the books by Trish Myers, the book by Mark Christiansen, and start experimenting. Learning Photoshop in tandem if you have'nt will help as well, as they share many similarities.

Wow! Nice girlfriend. I'd say dinner and a foot massage are in order.
Not only is AE great for the effects, but it can pull you're rear end out of the fire if some of your raw footage isn't everything you wanted it to be. Not saying that's ever happened to me. of course.

It's an EDU version, and I do get a free upgrade. That's badass. I know she's a keeper, that's why she's getting a DSLR, lens, flash, tripod, etc....and an engagement ring for graduation in December! http://smiliesftw.com/x/eek5a.gif (http://smiliesftw.com)

Thanks! I just bought two books from Amazon. This is gonna be awesome. I have PS CS2, should I have CS3 to take advantage or does it matter?

Damn....I wish I had a girlfriend like that. Cracker, one thing you may want to do is when you register your copy with Adobe you be given the option to choose a free gift. A classroom book, a font or a free one month subscription to lynda.com. I would opt for lynda.com. It will accelerate your learning faster than books. Just my opinion. Good luck!

Congrats to you Cracker!

Photoshop CS2 and Photoshop CS3 are extremely similar unless you are into a specfic type of rather advanced photoshopping.. Interface is very similar so if you start with CS2 and move on if you ever are going to need CS3, then it will be easy to do.

If it costs you money - dont upgrade.

Now, THAT's good advice. I'm relatively new to the DIY video business and it seems everywhere I turn I gotta spend more. CS2 seems to do everything I need at the moment, but I've never used CS3.

Gotcha! I'm embarrassed to say, I haven't even installed it yet. Lynda.com looks awesome.
