This week when I was editing with another editor we noticed in a frame and a half that there was color bars on the footage. I have so far checked/digitized maybe around 40-50 tapes shot on the HVX200a in regular miniDV 29.97 and I have only seen this once. So I wonder if it has happened to others shooting on P2 as well.

Since the color bars only appeared for a frame and a half I doubt that the camera accidently hit the button. So are there others who have gotten accidently color bars feed when they been shoting?

Never had the problem myself with P2. Sounds like the tape might have been striped with Color Bars before recording footage onto it.

Nope, brand new panasonic tapes.

well, I have accidentally hit the color bar button when shooting hand held. I bet that's what you did.

first time was right after I got the camera and was still learning it, and when the bars popped on, I freaked because I didn't know how to turn them off.

I wasn't the one using it.

I don't think the cameraman would have hit it so it would just be on for a 30th of a second. Also, the shot was more or less lock down interview where the interviewer operated the camera, and I doubt that he fiddled with the camera except zoom for tighter/looser shot. It is just that the color bars is placed somewhere where he wouldn't even be close when operating the camera, i.e. no settings there for him to fiddle around with in the middle of an interview.
