View Full Version : Confused = am I SOL?

Due to our long nature shoots in the wilderness I have quite an investment in Batteries and Additional lenses by Century Optics.
I now am in the market for upgrading my camera, due primarily to the improved low light sensor on the 170.
But I understand my Century optics lens won't work on the new 72mm lens. Is that correct? Are there any adapters?
Also, are the batteries different on the 170 than the HVX?:zombie_smiley:
Thanks.

If you have that much money invested in all of that, I'd say go with the HVX200a. The whole body is the same as your HVX200, and the image sensor is the same as the HPX170.

Plus you get a little more telephoto reach with the 200a vs. the 170.
You're fine on the batteries, they fit the 200a and the 170 as well.
What kind of nature stuff do you shoot?

Sounds like he already has an HVX

Yes, but it sounds like he has the original HVX200, which is why upgrading to the 200a might make sense for him if his accessories mean that much.

I do have the original HVX200, but I liked the smaller footpring the 170 provides due to backpacking and maneuverability.
Plus, it seems ridiculous that I have to spend another 5k just to get a little bit better low light performance and nothing more from the 200A. If it were low light and a smaller footprint, then that's more palatable. But if I go with the 170 I basically throw away 1500 in batteries and then my 82mm lenses. Frustrating but somehow I'll cope.

I'd go with the HPX and then sell your additional lenses by Century Optics or get an adapter ring to use them on the HPX if that's even possible.

The 200, 200a and the 170 all use the same batteries.
