Well I went to see this and after 30 minutes I had to leave the theater to help out a drunk friend.... lol I know but hey whatcha going do...

What I can say though is WOW! This movie was freaking terrific until I had to bounce out!

10x better than I expected!!

I just hope it holds up until the end, if so YESSSSS!

Can't wait to go back and fully check it out!

I got invited to a free screening of this, but decided not to go (hits self in face)

I'll definitely have to check it out

Hm, i suppose I'm in the minority.

There wasn't really anything wrong with the movie, but honestly I have to say it failed to really impress me.

Russel Crowe was great, and Leonardo DiCaprio was great - but you know, I kind of expect them to be great.

The story was just...eh....
I didn't feel like it really went anywhere surprising for me.
It kind of hit all the notes I expected it to - don't me wrong, it hit those notes perfectly.....
...I guess I just kind of felt like it wasn't really anything new.

Maybe I was expecting too much?

I personally didn't see a lot of the twists coming... but I usually don't :) I usually just let the story take me places....

*** potential spoilers.. maybe...kind of ****

Not trying to be a smart ass here - but what "twists" are you referring to?
That was actually part of my problem with the film, I felt like it was a bit too straightforward.
Given the trailers, I thought i was in for a lot more story twists and/or double crosses, etc.
But instead we pretty much knew exactly what was going on every step of the way, up until a few key scenes at the very end (you probably know what I'm referring to)

Straight forwarded isn't really bad. I don't think the movie is supposed to be about double crossing others, but more about lying to get what information we want. How it's okay to lie to your friends in the intelligence business. I could be wrong, but the movie to me seemed to talk a lot about trust. Ironic, considering everyone is lying. I didn't feel the end twisted at all, but I'm okay with that, not every movie needs a twist.

Evan - totally with you.
I think the film was just setup with a different expectation for me given the trailers I'd seen (which is exactly why I hate seeing trailers).

I wasn't trying to say that straightforward is bad....but it can seem disappointing when it's not what you expected.

I have to say... the trailer didn't grab me either. You would think that with all the talent on board that it must be decent though. Probably a rental for me.

I'm going to be completely honest....

When I walked out of the theater, I turned to my friend ad said almost word for word what you just described. I'm kind freaked out. Therefore, all I can say is, I agree with you.

I just watched it tonight and I think it's pretty good. Entertaining and engaging. That's Ridley Scott. Made a strong statement on the CIA and its un-effective secret operations. Despite all the state of the art technology and money putting into it, it's still the local guys who gets the job done. Anyone who gets caught or used in between is discarded as casualties of war. Two thumbs up.
