Hey guys what DOF adapters are confirmed to work well with the HPX170? I can see from the very long "Showstopper" thread is that there are some real issues when trying to use most DOF adapters with the 170 and I'm trying to buy one that will fit the camera well.

Thanks for any input.

Cinevate's "Brevis 35" works: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=149300

Depending on the adapter/lens combo you might need to use rails..

Thanks DCERVENKA, good to know.

the "show stopper" is for guys who DONT use adapters mostly. If you have an adapter, and rails, it becomes a non issue.

But the whole beginning post of that thread is about how a Letus Ultimate adapter aggravates the HPX170's lens wobble, is it not?

before it's locked down, yes it might. applying pressure to the lens assembly tends to move it (gasp!) but if you're running a letus ultimate without rails, then you've got bigger problems than lens wobble; like alcoholism.

SGPro work fine and it is firmly boltened to its support, no no issues for the lens wiggle

I wouldn't consider using an adapter without rails. Too much weight on the lens to risk.

Letus, Brevis, SGPro - all with stellar reviews. Haven't seen much new footage of the Cinemek upgrade but that could be soon in the mix.

Could I get some suggestions as to which DOF adapter you guys like best? I realize they're all a bit of a pain to set up but top priorities are high value at a fair price and preferably not too many individual pieces to set up.

Also, I heard the HPX170 has the ability to vertically flip the image, which means I can buy an adapter without a "flip" feature and still view the image right-side up. Is this correct?

I started the "Showstopper" thread.

I always use rails with my HPX and Ultimate, what I didn't do was screw the adapter into the support, which, when torqued by the follow focus, caused the wobbly HPX lens to shift from side to side. I used the same setup with a 200A and EX1 with no problems.

I have now added a second adapter support and screwed it into the Ultimate. So, I think most 35mm adapters should be fine with the 170. Using the 170 without an adapter is the real problem now--especially focussing on a long focal length.

The Letus achromat for the HVX200A and EX1 works well with the HPX170, edge to edge focus is better than with a 200A, as good as with an EX1. Minimal Chromatic Aberration, like the 200A, better than the EX1. So, while expensive, the Ultimate works well with the HPX and preserves most of the cameras resolution.
