I have some footage that was shot with a mattebox and a polarizer filter in front of the stock HVX lens. Evidently the DP did not check to make sure the mattebox was property sealed from light leaks and the footage is showing a reflection from light leaking at the back of the lens.
Reshooting is not an option. Does anyone know of a solution online or a tutorial for AE that might rectify a reflection in the shot?
Thank you,
Michael

Michael,
Is there anyway you can make the reflection work in the edit?
You might have to post a screenshot so we can see the extent of the damage. You could rebuild the lost image frame by frame. I really don't even know how to do that. It would be akin to a rig removal.
I know they had to do something similar in children of men when a blood packed burst on the lens. It was a long shot and they couldn't reset so they rebuilt the missing info in post to remove the blood. But it was an expensive and lengthy process.
If its really a 'money' shot. You might have to push it to an effects house.

Here's a link to a file I uploaded. The problem is on the girls' face in the middle. Notice the reflection from the filter as she moves back and forth across the frame. I'm not sure if some sort of color correction filter or adjustment layers in AE might correct it or reduce it. Not really sure what to do at this point.

You can lessen it by adding an adjustment layer, putting Levels on it, lowering the Gamma, masking the trouble regions, and keyframing the opacity and position of each mask.
There is still something there, but not as noticable.
You might also want to think about adding another moving element like a lens flare or glow in the trees, something to take the viewer's eye off that spot. Luckily, it only happens twice, so a couple of eye drawing effects in conjunction with the adjustment layer may pull it off.
