How smoothly can you run HMC-150 footage on an intel core 2 duo MBP 2.4 with 4 gb's on RAM?

If I have to convert the footage (like prorez?) how long are the render times for 1hr's of footage?

i've got a mbp core 2 duo 2.16 w/3gb ram and i was doing it just a tad bit slower than real time. and that was to the internal 5400 rpm drive. so yours would probably be a bit quicker. but that was with shriggs raw clips that he uploaded.

I have an 7200RPM hard drive but I'm gonna run the footage from external hard drives (7200RPM) I just want to be sure that it's going to run smoothly with my laptop.

You can be sure. Have a MBP 2.6 GHz with an internal 5400 HD. Achieved almost realtime transcoding, may be 10 to 15% slower.
Absolutely fast enough.

I have a MBP 2.6 GHz 4 GB RAM and 7200 rpm Firewire 800 drives .... realtime transcoding more or less!

I am in the process now of evaluating the HMC150 vs the HPX170 for my needs. Being able to use gear i am using now is a major issue. I have a MacBook Proi 2.16 with 1gig and the 100 gig/5400 rpm drive. I am upgrading it to 2 gigs and the new seagate momentus 7200/320gig.
Most of my work is doc style and I expect to be shooting 720p. I have external drives but all are 5400 rpm. Am I looking at a functional system and keeping the externals for archiving?
Thanks
