I have been using after effects for years now but this is the first project I get asked to create something like this and I thought, let me ask around first maybe someone did it already and shows me a faster way to what I am thinking ok here we go:

I need to create dollar bills raining down, now I have the picture of the 100 bill on photoshop and the first thing that poped into my head is create particles and use the bill as a layer map for the particles, how would you do it? easy and cheesey

thanks in advance

Do you have trapcode particular?

It's actually pretty easy. But the way I do it is using particular. Take the file from photoshop. Bring it into AE. Animate the bill in AE, turning, spinning, fluttering or what-have-you. In particular you want to take that animated precomp and make it the particle you are using.

Particular is the best thing for the job. I needed to recreate a Matrix type code for a project. Same basic premise.

As mattykins said its pretty easy with particular my tool of choice for this job. You can use the file or precomp as a "custom" particle in particular.

I recently did this exact same thing on a project with money falling down, but, in addition, I used the CC Page Turn effect to add some curling to the edges. It's not true 3D, obviously, but if done right with the rotation it can be pretty convincing, especially if you're particles aren't too big in the comp.

yep I have particular, I think every serious AE aditor should have trapcode products in the arsenal, anyway that is that first thing that I thought when they first gave me the project to use particular, let me get to it guys, thanks!!!

use an expression (confetti style) applied to one dollar bill and duplicate it a bunch of times.
