Hello,

I have a rented Ex-1 and a bizarre problem. I can't connect the Ex-1 to my computer, or better put, my computer does not recognize it.

I have tried via USB and via i.Link, to no avail. The camera will detect USB and ask to initiate USB connection, but when I do... tumbleweeds... nothing happens.

Is it Vista? I'm running Vista 64 bit.

And with I.Link, the option to enable i.link is greyed out and unselectable. This is most aggravating. I have rebooted, restarted, re-plugged, etc... but nothing.

It does not show up as a drive now does Vegas or any other NLE on my system recognize it.

Any thoughts? The clip viewer does not recognize the camera either, and I've installed the SxS drivers.

I have a feeling I'm missing something simple, but for the life of me don't know what it is!

Is it compatible with Vista 64? That could be your problem. Try an XP SP2 machine.

Yikes. Something must be wrong - I've tried it at home on XP (sp2) and still - nothing. No connection. This is aggravating.

Stupid question, you are pushing down on the thumbwheel (accepting) when the usb message appears, right?

No, no - fair question! But yes, I am. :)

I have now tried on 5 computers: Vista, XP, Mac - no go. Installed drivers, uninstalled them, reinstalled them, reset camera to factory defaults, USB, I.Link... no go. Tried different USB cables, really I've tried just about anything I can think of. But nada.

Very frustrating. I have a call into the rental house. My best guess is there's something wrong with the camera and I'll have to get a separate card reader to dump my footage. All my beautiful footage (I loved the camera otherwise!)... so close... but so far! :)

your not somehow trying to use the service USB port instead of the standard one are you? The service port should be behind a little face plate with a screw holding it in.
