OK I have Sony Clip Browser 2. I have shot the footage in 720P 50. I want to download it to the mac as SD footage.

Viewing the footage it looks very low res in clip browser. I export as a DV AVI and the file made is low res, with jaggies/steps everywhere. What am I doing wrong?

How do I increase resolution?
I have looked through every menu and there seems no way to change the resolution.

Thanks in advance.

Steve,
I'm not sure about the export, but if viewing within the browser looks bad:

Go to Tool drop down menu > Options > Display > Resolution > select Normal

There is no tool drop down menu.

OK found it in the preferences. i am using a mac version.

Doesn't solve the problem though. When i import a sd avi from the hd footage, its full of jaggies and steps. A mac problem?

Using the Sony transfer through FCP its perfect quality HD footage coming in.

doesn't help probably, but why don't you downconvert in fcp (http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/ex1_sd_output_young.html)?
Shot something to test both hvx and ex1 720/50over25 and I think I could shoot ex1 for SD w/o problem this way. Well, maybe if there are not too many high frequency details in frame.

What I am curreently doing is using clip browser 2 to bring in the 720P50 footage into FCP, editing in HD, then out SD. I deliver a lot in HD but do have two jobs here which are SD only with no need to capture and edit in HD, So I thought I would use Cli browser to convert the footage into SD and edit SD in FCP. I heard that Clip browser gives excellent HD/SD conversion, but when I tried it all I got was horrible low res files, with jaggies/steps and almost blurred images. Certainly no the crisp results others have reported. I can't find a way to incrrease the bit rate of the AVI files or anything. There just doesn't seem a way of increasing the quality of the files that have been converted.

Or do I have to buy the Mainconcept plugin pack 2 to get this to work better? In which case I will stick with working in HD and going to SD in Compressor.
