theoretically possible, although our current materials technology is lacking as the article suggests. the issue is the high tensile stresses. we could probably do one on the Moon however, with what we have today.

Sounds like a party and a half to me! I have always wanted to go to space, but the fear always stopped me (I say this like I have had several opportunities or something). :)

I think riding a rocket up would be more fun.
Can you imagine how much elevator music you'd hear on the way up? :eek:

Hehehehehe...and what if it stalled. How long would it take to get assistance. I mean, talk about that one guy in the elevator for a few days, how about a month? :D
I, too, think a rocket would be cooler, however.

How come nothing evolutionary is gonna happen before I die? Reminds me. Better pack my bags and prepare for 2012.
