Hi,
I am tossing up between whether to buy the Sony pd170 or the DVX, which as 2-000 dollars extra ? Is it worth it ? I like the idea of getting away from the video look, and having less crappy, TV looking shots.
cheers

John,
You're regurgitating? *???
At least you didn't say "tossing off"... *:) *
Anyway, what do you expect people to say about that on this forum?
I haven't seen a $2,000 price difference between the two cameras. Where are you planning to buy from?
Actually, I have a PD-150 I bought in 2000. I very briefly contemplated upgrading to a PD-170 but quickly realized the buzz that surrounded the DVX and the great images that were coming out of it.
DVX = 24p, 30p & 60i
PD-150/170 = 60i and 'pseudo' 15p only
So, I have a DVX100A that I bought new in March.
You should do the same. *;)

Thanks,
but the price difference is pretty big in Sydney, pd 170 about 5000 dollars Australian and the Panasonic is over $7000, unless I can buy it overseas.

$7000?
You'd save close to $4000 if you bought it from an American retailer.

He is refering to Australian currency. $7000 AUS is about $4800 USA.

I think the Pal version of the DVX in Australia is close to 8-000 dollars, I need to find someone travelling through New York !!!

Why not offer a DVXuser member a few weeks work as a cam assitant, grip etc. in Sydney, oh and of course a place to stay! I'm sure one of us would be happy to deliver it to you! What else do you need?

Good idea,
thanks very much, I am not working on any production at the moment, but its good to think laterally and find a way around all the bullshit, tax laws. We pay too much for DV gear in Australia, about 20% more than in the U.S
thanks
John
