I recently purchased a Sennheiser G2 wireless system. The microphone it comes with isn't too shabby but it doesn't have that "open" full spectrum sound of my wired Sanken COS-11 or even the internal EX1 microphone. It sounds rather thin in comparison...not "bad" just not as good.

I was wondering what microphone (omni patterned) you all would recommend to match. I need a new mic for two person interviews anyway and I think there was a link floating around for a company who can rewire any lav mic to any wireless system. Sennheiser MKE-2 and Sony 77b was on my list but if there's anything better let me know.

Also, what sort of mics do news stations use for that "in your face" sound? Is that mostly done with their audio processors at the station or is there a particular make/model that's good for that stuff? I read up on the Electro-Voice RE50 but its low price has me wondering if it will be any good.

I just ordered the Senheiser myself and am excited to hear how it sounds. I have been told by many others that if you want a good lav mic, look no further than a Countryman. But you may want to get others to chime in on that.

The standard ME2 that come with the G2 should be avoided, I use the MKE2 and think they are great.
But I guess most people (in the US) will tell you to get Sankens or Countrymans...

Another vote for the MKE2's. I also bought the Senn G2's and upgraded to the MKE2 Sennheisers right away. The EVRE50 is a great handheld mic but a bit of the sound you are searching for IS due to heavy audio compression downstream from the mic itself.

Do you have to buy the MKE2 separately, or were you able to get it bundled with the G2? If so, was it cheaper to get it that way?

If you like the Sanken COS11, why not get another one? That is one of the best lavs available. Check the audio section here. I think the 2 most recommended lavs are the COS11 and the Countrymen B6.

I have 3 of them, and they work great. I bought them from TAI Audio, and they rewired them to the G2 type connectors for free. Other stores probably offer this service, too.

I bought a pair of them off of eBay but had to get Sennheiser Support to tell me how to wire them. I also got the locking TRS connectors from Markertek.

I tossed the mic that came with the G2 and bought an Countyrman EMW with the Sennheiser connection.

It works great.
