Hey Everyone, I've exhausted just about every possible solution. I bought a Canon HV30, shot a bunch of tapes in 1080i mode. I connect the camera via firewire to my computer (MacPro 8 Core), and it won't detect the camera, nor will the camera indicate that it is connected.

I've tried switching the AV>DV setting, I sent the camera into Canon because I thought it might be a bad firewire port, but they sent it back, said it worked fine. I checked the firewire cable, it works fine with my HVX-200. I really have no idea at this point why it's not working. I'm thinking of asking for my money back and returning it, because this whole situation is ridiculous. I just wanted a nice little B camera. Even if I don't load certain programs, it should still detect the firewire connection, right? Is there another codec I need to install just to establish a physical connection?

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Assuming you're using Final Cut, just check your capture settings. I know, I know simple right? I overlooked it the first time I connected an HV30. I forgot to switch from DV to HDV.

Ok, it's detecting under DV settings in Log and Capture. But I don't see an option anywhere for HDV. Do I have to install the HDV codec in Final Cut somehow?

Are you using the front fire wire port or the back? When i bought my mac pro, i had the same problem. i hooked the camera in the back port and it seemed to fix the problem.
