On a lark, I decided to look up dvxuser.com's ranking in alexa.com, which is a website that monitors and ranks traffic to websites.
I was astounded. *According to Alexa, dvxuser.com ranks about 76,000. *Out of all the top-most-traffic'd websites in the world, dvxuser is in the top 100,000. *That's amazing.
To put it in perspective, dvinfo.net, which has a dvx forum but also caters to devotees of just about every other camera, editing platform, everything possible... ranks 93,000.
And 2-pop doesn't even break into the rankings.
ProMax, an international reseller of all things Apple, Panasonic, Sony, etc. is ranked about 223,000. *Netdr.com, a national online pharmacy, is 229,000. *EVSonline, one of our favorite resellers, is ranked 307,000. SaferSeas.com, a reseller frequently discussed on this board, is 493,000. * Birns & Sawyer is 504,000.
DVXUSER is on par with Sonic Foundry, whose site ranks 69,000.
I don't know about you guys, but I think that's just amazing, that a little site with 1600 members is generating traffic in the top 100,000 of all websites in the world. *Jarred, you should be able to start charging good money for ads on this board. *2-pop is littered with ads, and they're not even ranked as far as traffic goes!

My tip... shoot the politics, don't comment -- though, it is against the UCMJ for me to do so anyway. But, I'll fight to the death for your right to do so.

Yeah its amazing how we have grown over the last year. All you guys gotta know its each and every one of you that make this place what it is, all I do is make sure the servers are up and deal with the day to day operations. John pretty much is the face of this place cause he posts so damn much, and Barry Green... well I dont think I gotta say how much he ads to the site, its like having a rocket scientist on board to ask questions too. All our moderators that make sure we dont get off skew, and People Like Jan C and other manufacturers onboard to give the "other" side of debates.
But anyways, enough with the rambling on, thanks everyone who posts and helps each other out.. this place is more than just a website, its a community.

That is so cool to hear news like that! I know when I get online, I check e-mail and then browse here. That's pretty much it. I aint got much use for all that other nonsense out there. heh!

Hmmmmm Most of the images and videos are hosted on other sites so that's a tough one to estimate. I'm going to guess, because of the sheer number of visitors, that it's 2tb+ . And that's a low-end estimate.

yeah if any of you around a few years back when I first started DVXuser, I started it on my own homebrewed unix machine running off my office ISP, under there "2gb traffic per month" package. That was great for the first few months when there was only a dozen members, but now that 2gb would be consumed in about 4 hours.

just a heads up on alexa-related stuff, i remember awhile back installing their toolbar put a bunch of spyware and stuff on your computer, so if they still have one i would stay away.
and to toot my own horn, "the-lyons-den.com" blips into the top 100,000 a few times a year (usually around movie releases), hopefully we'll make an appearance again later this year...

Heh heh... that's a pretty cool idea. It'd be cool if we all shot a limited duration short (30 seconds?) and sent them in to one person who could edit them all together. Of course, the videos would all be congratulatory to DVXuser. :)
