How does the HVX record 60i with it's progressive imager? does it just record 60p and then interlace? I know that when it records 24p into an interlaced stream it just records native progressive frames and splits them in half, deviding them into the stream with 2:3 pulldown.

But with 60i the camera had to actually creates 60 fields, each taken at a diffferent time. how does it do that?

Yes. It scans 1080/60P and then slices those 60P frames into 60i fields.

is the 60i more jagged on the 200a than the 170? Or is it about the same?

Interlacing on any camera shows up about the same IMO. Barry could clarify, but its little to do with how the camera (edit for clarity) creates its interlaced signal from my understanding.

Basically,

interlacing SUCKS.

Well, yes and no. It has a purpose it fills. Will look like crap on a monitor. But burn an interlaced DVD and watch it on your TV.
