Very nicely done. Where were the freeway onramp shots filmed? Looks like the San Fernando valley, perhaps

Ah, gotto love justice while watching wonderful footage.

Was the wobble on the Steve and Barry's rack focus due to the 170's lens wiggle?

That looked like it might be Glendale. Thanks for uploading man!

A few thoughts:
_ &@%#*@! about the lens wiggle... good spotting it, thanks for the Vimeo!
_ "Is your 170 in there was hilarious"
_ Thanks for the variety... only were missing some mid sun stuff
_ Noiseless low light stuff continues to amaze past HVX-200 owners like me (well current owners)
_ Those DARK opening shots are the best so far.. sooo dark! lol... but about them... how does the zoom ring compare to the 200's?

Thanks for the work and the time to upload the video man!

I'm glad you guys are enjoying the video!

Jay: Here is a QT h.264 version on my site. http://www.davidshawl.com/hpxtest.mov

I, Filmmaker: All the freeway & car shots were taken on a bridge right by Burbank Town Center (close to the IKEA & In N Out). The palm tree & airplane shots were taken in North Hollywood.

mrbrycel: I was listening to Justice while filming the interior shots and it fit well! On the "Steve and Barry's rack focus / chain link fence" shot, I was doing a long rack by hand on full telephoto so it could have been the lens wobble and/or my fingers adding movement by rotating the focus ring.

USLatin: The mid-sun stuff was likely happening while I was sleeping! I had a very irregular 170-induced mid day sleep, though well worth it! I liked the dark shots too! Most of the dark shots in the test video, including some of the red-ish/dark orange sky shots were done with all the NDs on are almost all. I really like that we have more NDs on the camera now, more flexibility. The zoom ring is very similar to the 200. I like it!

Yea, that's what I heard but for the focus... so you think the zoom does also? That could only be a good thing if it still has that responsive mechanical feel.

BTW, I was going to say Burbank... but I didn't... no credit for me getting the place right.

Barry just pointed out that the HVX-200 also had the same exact lens wobble issue, I tried it on mine and sure enough I have never even noticed it... so I guess I don't have any problems that I have noticed arising from that!

Pheww..... I feel MUCH better now!!

Actually you are correct USLatin, what I read was about the FOCUS having more drag, not the ZOOM. As far as I can tell the ZOOM rings are identical between the 200 & 170.

I like that you use "Showtime"-scented Old SpiceŽ. :)

Thanks for posting that! I'm vacillating between the 150, 170, & EX1. I want the 170 most (I think...), but P2 prices might steer me to either the 150 or an EX1 (which SteveT is testing lower cost memory alternatives).

Gotta love the Old Spice. I think P2 prices are going to be lower within two months..

Thanks for the link dude... Looks good!

The P2 prices will def come down in a month or two! I'm looking forward to it.

Terry, get that HPX already! :)

Nice shooting. Those shadows are really clean and this looks very sharp.

Nice video and very nice music. But why chroma 6?

USLatin

Yea that's quite saturated, but leave the guy alone man, maybe he was just testing it :D

That is a LOT of saturation.... but I guess it doens't look as saturated when you push it down so hard.

I really like the Chroma +6 look! Colors seem deeper and bolder, but not overwhelming.
I am enjoying this camera a LOT. I can't seem to put it down for too long

Yeap, I'm in the same situation (between the 150 and 170).
The 150 cost + low cost cards is a plus, but I'm not sure if the image / color quality is better in the 170 (mainly by client eyes :)
I like the EX1 / EX3 definition, but I don't like the sony colors / video look.
I'd like to see footage 170 vs 150...

BTW, nice footage!

David, could you explain what you meant by having to recompress twice due to a software error?

thanks!

I decided to use Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 to edit the test video and at the moment, Premiere has a limited Quicktime h.264 codec that doesn't allow for multi-pass encoding. I first exported a "100% quality" h.264 non-multi-pass QT file out of Premiere (was about 800MB). Then I opened that QT file in Quicktime Pro and then exported a 5000kbps MULTI-PASS h.264 QT file that is about 160MB. That is what I posted to Vimeo. It's more of a workaround then an error.
