What is the best format to shoot if you are going to be blowing it up to 35mm film. I would think 1080p but could you mix some 720p in there if you want variable frame rates? Also what is the end result like. Does it alter the quality of the pictures or does it just make it so it can be projected?

A good many HVX projects have been printed to film with great success. The image can look very good and clean with the right moves in the post department.
As for what you should shoot in I would shoot all my footage in 1080 24pA (I do) unless you need slow motion in which you would up-rez 720 footage to 1080 as necessary.

Just shot a feature in 720pn which will most likely be blown up to 35mm. Everyone has been impressed with the footage... as I say, resolution is overrated, it's all about lighting.

Where would I find a place capable of doing this. And I hesitate to ask how much it would be to convert a 150min film? Which would be about 216,000 frames.

www.dvfilm.com (http://www.dvfilm.com) is one place to check. There are many video-to-film labs. I think DVFILM charges about $400/minute or so for HD to film, so about $60,000 for a 150-minute film.
