I saw some footage comparisons between the HVX200 and the EX1 but the HPX170 has a whole new chipset and DSP so I'd like to see how the to fair against each other. I know that the EX1 will no doubt be sharper but I'm really curious how these things compare in color rendition, low light performance, dynamic range, and highlight handling.

I haven't been able to test both cameras yet, but I have been running some tests with footage shot with the EX-3 at 1080 and HVX200 at 720.

I still need to elaborate better but so far it's clear that locked down the Ex blows away the HVX as far as resolution and definition goes. But when it comes to handheld footage (or moving, pan, tilt, etc...) I'm not that surprised or convinced by the superiority of the EXs.

Again, nothing too scientific or technical, but this is my opinion so far.

I have tested the EX1, 200A, HPX500, HDX900 and HPX170 side by side in some cases, days
apart in others. The EX1 has much more resolution than even my HDX900, and it much quieter than any of the Panasonic models. It is also 1.5 stops slower in 1080/24P than my HDX900, but it's so quiet you can run the gain up to +3db with no problem. The EX1 is a fantastic front end, but I prefer I-Frame 4:2:2 codecs to Long GOP 4:2:0, as do my editors.

The 200A and 170 are very similar in most respects image wise, although I do feel that the
processing in the 170 is a bit smoother around the edges--no aliasing or other video artifacts.
