It is interesting to me that the details of the 5 year warranty are actually not included with camera & I could not find the details on the website link that was provided.

but I did find it here:

So, what does the 5 year extended warranty actually cover?

I'm not certain what you are asking.

It covers everything except what is expressly excluded in the way of manufacturing defects.

If I am reading it correctly, as I am quoting it directly, "This extended warranty does not cover CCD block*, LCD panel, fan, handle, cases, viewfinder mount and consumable and cosmetic parts such as the ones made of rubber beyond regular warranty. This extended warranty does not cover accessories such as batteries, AC adapter, P2 cards, viewfinder or cables.

To me, that is a pretty long list of things that it does not actually cover. So, it really doesn't cover "everything."

I guess the questions that I am posing are:

1.) what does the warranty actually cover. Like, if your _____ breaks, the warranty will cover it.

2.) would it be beneficial to buy a secondary warranty such as Mack or

3.) is this really the standard limited videocamera coverage?

4.) can anyone point me to the 1 year limited warranty for camera such as the HVX200A? I can't find it anywhere online and would love to compare the two.

I'm not certain what the confusion is. There express exclusions that are listed.

Everything else is covered.

I have no idea what everything else is because I don't know what can become defective during the warranty.

Obviously accessories aren't covered. That is self evident.

Cosmetic parts normally aren't covered. The rest of the non excluded inside and outside is covered.

I think I have posed some pretty specific questions in my second post.

I have had great success with Mack Warranties in the past and I am trying to make sure while I am still in my purchase period if I should in fact purchase a warranty outside of the limited 5 year Panasonic warranty largely because it appears to be quite limited in its coverage and I am not really sure what it does cover - like if my CCD fails on the 3rd year, I have no coverage for that?

I would also like to compare the 170's warranty to the 200's warranty because I would like to see the similarities & differences. I think I could learn a lot from this comparison. But, I can't find the 200's warranty online.

I would love to hear some others opinions on this.

Does anyone know, does the 5 year warranty cover dust on the inside of the lens element?

This was an issue for my DVX100.
