I have no problems log n transferring 1080i footage from a new HMC150, but everytime I try to transfer 720p footage FCP just crashes. Has anyone had similar problems?
OSX 10.5.5 & FCP 6.0.4

Yes - until I disabled Perian (System Preferences -> Perian -> Uninstall Perian). This with 1.1 and the new 1.1.1.
I'm still getting glitches with some of the test footage that's out there, but at least Final Cut isn't crashing.

hmm.. i have perian 1.1 i think, and i've had problems with 1080-30p clips glitching with green frames. think perian could be the culprit?

Please, do not install or keep installed Perian.
So many reports of wreaking havoc with FCP.

Anyone know how to remove Perian permanently? I removed all the preference plist etc but when i go to empty trash it says perian is still in use?
nevermind i got it figured out just had to do a restart and i was able to remove the component from the trash.

I had the exact same problem as the original poster, but on FCE4. Getting rid of perian seemed to make no difference. I think that maybe FC is incapable of converting 720p into AIC, and can only do this for 1080i (there is no easy setup for 720p, not sure if that is relevant).

i've transcoded 720p footage thru toast 9 to AIC.

I ended up using Voltaic which seemed to work ok. It is quite slow as it only seems to utilise 1 or 2 cores, but it can work on large batches so at least you can leave it to do its thing while you sleep. Just going to shoot 1080i from now on though.

Toast 9 is way faster than Voltaic. I get real time or a bit faster transcode to DVCPROHD with 720/24p footage on a dualcore G5.
