Shotgun Stories is my favorite film of this year and I'll try to explain why without giving away anything.
One of my biggest qualms with films today is they're too busy -- bloated with dialogue. I'm a firm believer in it's not what you say, it's in how you say it, and how you carry yourself. Shotgun Stories was never on the radar, really, but it is a brilliant piece of work in its masterful use of silence.
It's a perversion of the Norman Rockwell American identity, and I think, it's the most accurate representation of Midwestern and Southern attitudes that I've ever seen on film.
I highly, HIGHLY recommend it.
