Ok, boring weather today. Grey, cloudy, depressing. Just went 2mn outside to film something. Not interesting, but boring footage is better than no footage i guess when there's a new cam release.

wow -20 master ped? Nice!

Actually I thought this footage was quite interesting. There were a lot of dark areas, shadows, and enough contrasting colors for me to go "ooooh" and "hmmmm".

At -20 master ped I was expecting the shadows in the building or the tires of the trucks and trunks of the trees to be black, also considering the grey day light. But it all came through with detail still intact. I like the way the yellows and oranges look. I liked the detail in the back of that blue dump truck, the scratches and rust color, love it. Not to mention the puddles on the ground and scratches on the walls. All the detail in the blue jump suits seem to show up well and from that distance! Also I can see shadow gradation at the top portion of that green and silver fence!

I learned a lot from this little bit of test footage. There was just SO much going on, So much detail that got picked up. The darker areas are a bit noisy sure, but considering the amount of light, it ain't that bad.

More! More!

I particularly liked the performances. Did you pay the actors?

And the footage looks amazing. Reminds me of kodachrome a little bit, how the colours are so saturated.

I wish the would come out with an upgrade one day to where the motion on the manual zooms and pans didn't look so digital. Anyone else know what I;m talking about?

What does 180 mean?

In "Film" mode the shutter speeds are in degrees like film cameras. It's 1/48 in 24p. 1/50 in 25P ....

wow -20 master ped? Nice!

Well master ped scale has changed, it's 0 to 100 now.

yeah that's nice. and 60p slowmo for us too :p

i guess if you take time to adjust everything, good shutter speed, pan speed, tripod or stabilizer, etc, it can look a lot more like film. I just went down my building 2mn and I was zooming all the way in from the other side of a big street. So shaking a lot.

I'm coming from a DVX100a that's why. 0-100 increments blows my mind. All these little details!

Images looked nice.

I use similar settings on my 500 with good results. Though I might adjust the detail level to 0, not as much master ped in camera - easy to do in post.

Also can you look at your original footage (post full scale grabs if you can) and compare to the following I picked up a couple of times. EDIT - Look at dirt pile almost centre frame of these cuts.

As the image went through I saw this cut section, with all detail in tact

Turn to this in the next frame.

Not sure if its a compression out thing, but would be great if you could check it in your original timeline and post the raw outs at the same points.

Heres the full frame to help locate it in timeline - couldnt see tc. Blurred image is frame following this.

Cheers

EDIT AGAIN: Just saw same thing on your low light footage. One frame with lost detail - may be your compression settings?

Noel, I've checked frame by frame (and especially those 2 frames) and there's no compression problem on the original footage. Everything's ok. It's really just the mp4 compressed footage

Hi mate, Ive gone through a bunch of footage now and havent seen it again. I think its safe to say its in your compression when you export.
