Is it capable of true slow motion via the 720/60p?

Yep, the way I did it was convert the .mts files that shrigg posted to Apple ProRes HQ 720/60p, opened that in cinema tools and conformed it to 23.98. The clip came out being 40% the speed of the original (24/60). It looked great!

awesome! Kinda... I've never used cinema tools. How do you manage that and conversion. been trying. But slightly lost. I'm popping my HD Cherry over here.

haha. It's easier than you think. Way easier.
1. Open up cinema tools.
2. Ignore the popup window asking you to open a database or whatever....
3. Go to File--->Open Clip
4. Find your 60p clip you want to conform.
5. The video will show up in a window, click conform in the bottom right.
6. Choose 23.98 (or whatever fps you want) and hit conform.
That's it. You can close the program and go play the video. No saving the file or anything. It will play at 24fps thus giving you slow motion.
Good luck

I used Toast 9 to do so. But I guess you can drag the "stream" folder of all the .mts files into Final Cut 6.0.4's Log and Transfer tool and convert there.

funny you say that. I used toast 9 as well. but when I put the file into cinema tools, it didnt want to comply.

Why not convert in Toast to DVCProHD?
Just about the same attributes of prores, and much better data rates.

I'll try that out as well. Thanks David.

How is the 60p slow motion done on the PC side?
I shot some close up footage of a butterfly in 60p. When I drop the footage into the timeline of Vegas or Premiere (24p project settings) it conforms the clip to the project settings. I don't get the slow motion that I was hoping for.
I've read the manuals and tried some things, but I can't seem to get the slow motion look I wanted.
Hey Briody, it's pretty simple in Vegas - all you need to do is drop the clip into the timeline, open the clip's properties and change the playback rate to 0.5, then it will play back at half the speed (30P.) I do this all the time with my JVC's 50P footage and it works beautifully :)
