Finally made it to your thread Movie Master but best believe I wasn't going to miss out on the double dose of terror that you're bringing us for Twilight Fest. Anxious to see some grabs, shots, or anything like that to get my blood pre-curdled!!

Alright... again, good effort! This one was also dark and spooky. I liked this one just like the other...but... the story bugged me. I can't believe they wouldn't have cleared the house and removed the children before processing the crime scene.

This was a goul...ly one.

It seems you worked over this a little bit more than the other one (my impression).
Sound, sound, sound! Horrors depend a lot on sound, parts meant to scare are good, but the tention one parts are also very important.

The end got me jumped, but I think you left a second or two of that cop too long. The scream of the girl end, his screaming ends, and then there's a little visual which reveals that he's still standing.

Other than that, I like the idea and the mask of boogeyman - maybe the hands needed to be masked for a full impression.

Keep up the ghoulish pride out there!

Movie master....i really dug it. That shot where you do a quick cut to the boogie man suddenly laying next to her.....AWESOME! And I really bought most of the acting between the girls and the mother.

The movie was genuinly creepy. Keep it up!

Nobody but you, MM, can make this stuff. Awesomely good time.

Critiques: 1) Mom's bedroom seems to be fully lit. Would be both scarier and more consistent with the story if you had shot it low key; 2) What's with the interlace artifacts? I think I recall you had this problem before too. Should be easy to fix if you give some info as to your settings and editing software.

Raves: 1) My God, the cut to the boogey man next to the mom was one of the best of the fest. I love that whole scene. Very well done, my man!; 2) The actress playing the mom did a great job. Very natural.

So nice to see you back with stuff here. Hope we don't have to wait for next Halloween to see more.

Your film gave to me a feeling of documentary film - more than acting, it seems that someone filmed a family. It gave me the feeling that I am in a reality show. This fact made the moment when the zombie is lying with the mother in her bed extra creepy. I enjoyed this scene. I am not sure about the colours - the whole film was very red. Did you want this? However nice and funny work. :)

I do like a good indie horror short and this delivers. When he lays down in bed and she tries to scream was great. I really enjoyed your movie!

Four things killed it for me ...

Over-the-top make up, like what happens when you let someone run amuck in a costume shop.

The conversation between the girls didn't do anything for the film. That time would have been better used in building suspense.

The detective's phone call did not sound at all realistic.

Lastly was the Blair Witch ending. Way too similar.



I'm not a big horror fan because so much of it is a rehash. This one came across as more of that rehash. Nothing really jumped out as new or fresh.

Sorry, this one didn't do it for me. I think the simplicity of your other monster is far more efective than this Lagoon Creature.

Well your films are an aquired taste that people will either love or hate moviemaster imo. It was funny but my filmmaker brain was overtly critical of both, for their technical standards - oh lots really!

Its funny but i wonder how many filmmakers neurosis for percieved excellence might cloud perspectives on the secret merit of these films ;)

Suffice to say I enjoyed them - i felt it was wrong to haha, but they are excellent and very indulgent b movie treats for fans of the macabre.

There is a gross simplicity that comes across as dark and sadistic. For all the slickness of a well shot horror, great blood/and fx, there is something crudely effective about the mask, warm colour hues and documentary style of cinematography.

It may be the voyeuristic element (of home video/film) which combined with the sadistic feel makes us uneasy viewers (secretly delighting in its perverse representations)

I think lawriejaffa sums up what I feel towards you movies, movie master. He says what i'm unable to articulate. Yes, the films are not up to "snuff" when compared to the expectations of cinematic excellence, but that's comes from preconceived notions of what makes a "good" flick.

Anyway, here is my review:

Oh, Movie Master, you’ve done it again. Your oddly effective creepiness has risen above your self-proclaimed limitations. This piece kept my attention throughout and even got a “oh my God what the F*ck” reaction out of me when the boogy man showed up. You know, your film style has this 70’s snuff film feeling to it. I swear you must have killed the whole cast after the film was wrapped.... What are you shooting your films with? The look is just home made eerie.

I also loved the lighting when the detective was on the phone. It doesn’t conform to the ‘high quality’ standards of a flick with an actual budget, but it gets the story across with mood.

It has nothing to do with the story, but your films make me feel like there is someone with a video camera and a kitchen knife lurking in my house at night.

All in all, kicked Dark Fortune’s unfortunate a$$. You are indeed a filmic demon.

One of the scariest scenes in the fest right here: the moment when the mom thinks there's something wrong and decides to turn around. Creeepy. Who hasn't had one of those dreams when you're paralized by fear. Hell.

Ok, I shouldn't have watched this one right now. Really liked the closeup of the mom's face when she was too terrified to roll over...the way it lingered really helped build suspense. Everybody's pretty much already said what I felt...the gritty retro quality of it really helped sell the whole thing. Some creepy stuff man. Good job!
